Phoenix mail server refusing connections

I think that's about it... I'm getting a mysql message from the mail server on all of our accounts... no connection.

I'm going to try the web site but I'm not exactly sanguine.

I just tried the web site, by name, and got in with no delay at all.

You don't understand, I've been logging in through an email program, both Eudora and Outlook Express... now I can't!

Just retrieved mail with Outlook 2000. All seems to still be running well. Was actually surprised that the mail servers where even still up and running after Monday. The DSL line has been down since Sat.

FWIW, I believe the "official" PhoenixDSL mail server is now down, and that Phoenix/MegaPath has temporarily outsource these service to a third party vendor. At least it appears so when obtaining mail via their website.

I got a hint of this when I started receiving some of my more critical mail (stock trades, credit card statements) via my yahoo address that I provided to these parties as a back up. Some electronic forwarding appear to be going on, and that the senders were advised of this for security reasons. Just a hunch.

What's typical, if I'm correct, is that all this was done without any communication to us, the customer. Another black mark for MegaPath in my book. A complete abdication of responsibility. But then again, they think its Telocity's responsibility even though we were never moved to their network.

Not true, mail01.phoenixdsl.com is up and has been running. There was a password glitch today, but its resolved...

Then explain why when you go to the mail.phoenix site you get redirected to an address with "sqwebmail" on the URL. What's this? I don't recall see this before the redirection to another URL.

Moreover, why did my critical mail to the phoenix mail server get bounced back so as to cause that mail to be resent to a backup address. I sure didn't do it.

Call it whatever you will. Mail server 01 or mail server 007. What's the difference? My main point is that there is no communication whatsoever between Phoenix and the customer about essential Internet service. Never has been, at least until the company was sold to MegaPath. MegaPath never gave a rat's ass about residential customers, and you likely know this, as judging from your comments, you obviously work for MegaPath (Phoenix).

Go ahead, defend your employer. But really, my comments are sincere, and honestly cannot be disputed. There was never any communication with residential customers once such accounts were sold to MegaPath. This is evidenced not only by recent MegaPaths conduct following the failure of Northpoint, but also by their conduct over the past several months during the transition of such account over to Telocity. Also take not of MegaPath's own CEO encouraging residential customers to just plain "leave" back in November 2000.

Say what you wish, but the facts speak for themselves.

As of this moment, I can still get phoenixdsl mail over outlook express. Odd. Havent checked for outsourcing, but there it is. In the issue of no communication yeah, AND HOW! Dont forget they made the phone tech support a total dead end recording "we cant take your call now" when Megapath took over. Thats a terrible disservice. But I guess there is nothing we can do about it. At least the average guy is just screwed once again.

Its redirected to a different webmail program running on the same box, that's it. Yes it is different than before, but on the same physical server...

Phoenix is DEAD, why do you bother still trying to use their email address??

Because there is still mail coming into it. Not everyone has been notified of my address change.
And some others where waiting for the "timely migration" to take place.

The DNS records for PNX1.com and Phoenixdsl.com and pointing to the Megapath server. Strange but true, the Megapath DNS server has NO information and all of the attempts to resolve the Phoenix networks domains FAIL. The mail server mail.pnx1.com is up and running but no one outside the phoenix network can get to it!
I have traded Email with Megapath and they maintain that the Phoenix servers are off line and not accessable from the internet. Not true. I had sucsessfull ping and trace routes from three places, one of them is in europe!
I have been happy with the connection but this migration has got to be the worst example of project management I have ever seen. I think the technical term is Cranial Rectal Inversion.

I just checked again now.
My account at mail.phoenixdsl.com is accessible, and I received mail on it today.
I was also able to get to the webmail page today.

The last emails I've received were on April 9th.

Does anyone have some creative ideas on how to access our email?

I wish. I've been trying both the normal and web-based email for the past couple days without success. I haven't even been able to get the Phoenix web-site to load lately... As one of the lost souls who got left behind, I'd really like to be able to get my stranded email
