Poor retention on newsgroups.

Hi,

I'm checking to see if anyone else has the problem I do with the Knology newsgroups.

I download a lot of binary files. Many of the binary listings seem to last only 24 to 48 hours; then they're history. For me, this is simply not long enough.

I can't stay "glued to my computer" 24 hours a day to make sure I get a file I want before Knology blows it away.

Others have advised me to sign up with one of the services that specializes in newsgroup access. Most of them have retention rates of up to 7 days and more.

I don't feel I should have to pay "extra" to another company to get service that Knology should be providing.

Does anyone else have a problem with this poor retention, or do you think I'm just expecting too much for my forty bucks a month??

Your comments would be welcome.

I think you are expecting too much. Usenet is a bad way to distribute large files. Most customers probably never use it. You should be glad that Knology (or any ISP) carries them at all.

Many ISP's do not offer newsgroups. Knology is one of the few.Usenet is more for NEWS then sharing LARGE files as Montezuma stated.

Thanks
Scott

Whoa, guess I attacked the sacred cow, huh? Sorry guys, but you're off base. EVERY major ISP provides newsgroup service. Your info is dead wrong and misleading to new users who are reading your posts. Many ISP's have far better retention than Knology provides.

As for my being "grateful" hey guy, I'm the one paying the bill. I believe that Knology could show a little more gratitude on their part for the portion of my money, and yours, that they put in their bank account every month by providing better service.

It is obvious that you guys are not newsgroup users or you would not have made the statements that you did. In any event, thanks to both of you for your comments.

Agreed,
We are currently working on a carrier grade newsgroup product. One that has not limits, large storage, and good retention.

Thanks bfrye,

That's good news. I'm glad to hear it. If you would be so kind, please keep the forum advised as to your time schedule on this project. "preciate ya."
