VoIP Wow !!!

balaton : I am relatively familiar with the technical details of Voip and I am also a Vonage customer for several months now. While I realize that Voip or Vonage is a niche market and it isn't for everyone I do enjoy the savings it gives me. My in-laws are in the Midwest and let me tell you my wife does like to talk on the phone. Was I happy when I got a local Virtual Number for them !! Nevertheless it was a call today that blew my mind away. I signed up an expat friend of mine who lives in Budapest, Hungary. He received his ATA and today I spoke to him for 30 minutes by calling a New York Vonage number. The voice was crystal clear, no glitches, nada. Wow, it's just amazing. He told me that the Vonage rates to call Italy and other parts of Europe are at least 70% cheaper than using his state monopolized local telephone. I remember the days when in the early 90s I paid $1.70/minute to call Hungary.
Anyway, I understand that not everybody is interested in my memories here, but VoIP just blows my mind away...
