Re: NIS 2003 v6.0.4 & USB Device (Logitech Mice?)

said by NeoGeo64:
•Unplugged Logitech Wireless Optical mouse and plugged Logitech Internet Navigator keyboard back in. Booted back up. Everything works fine.

I think we've found our culprit! And we've also learned that Symantec does not use Logitech mice.

Now the question is: Which Logitech mice cause this error (if any others) besides my model? And can the NIS team narrow this down and fix the error?
Do you happen to use Logitech's mouse software and/or driver? If so, then can you please try uninstalling/disabling it? I wonder if this makes any differences.

As for others who had Logitech mice and unplugging it worked:
1. Logitech USB mx300 mouse
2. Logitech USB Optical Wheel mouse.

Just for kicks... on my Dell P4 3 Ghz test system with 512 MB of RAM. I borrowed a Logitech Wheel Mouse from a co-worker. Here's my result with configured NPF 2003 (Security Assistant, enabled everything, added a general rule, etc.): a) I tried with the default driver from Windows XP: No hangs. b) I tried installing Logitech's Mouseware software with its updated mouse driver: No hangs. Basically, I couldn't reproduce it.

Again, not everyone is using a Logitech device with v6.0.4 LU problems from what I see. So, we're still confused with this. [sighs]

Any word on the progress of the new update? Does it solve the Logitech mouse issues?

We finally got a machine with Windows XP OS with the problem. A developer checked it out and figured out the problem. There should be a fix for it soon. Let's just say it had nothing to do with newer NISUM.EXE (weird, I know!!). It also seems like it is combination of things that cause this problem (not USB devices when we first theorized).

I don't know the release date for the patch so don't ask me when (when it's done!). For now, use the workaround from KB document (most likely will resolve the problem for temporary) or uninstall, reinstall, and go up to v6.0.2.25 (6.0.4 isn't there any more).

Issue as in symptoms? Hang, long load, etc. If issue as in what was the conflict, I can't tell you.

Unknown. No news. This might be a while though. You don't need to reask for updates. Just wait until there's another patch released, news updates, or something.

So, has the fix been released yet? It's been a few weeks, just checking in.

This is still dated June 24th:

Don't forget that this is the second go-round of this NPF issue; the patch was first released on April 11th. Who knows what horrors 6.0.4 #3 will bring. I dumped NPF 2003 and went back to NIS 2002--I don't feel like testing Symantec patches anymore!

Re: Very bad NAV issue

I quit using NPF because of this issue, Not that Norton {Symantec} cares, But this is a bad Joke! Total disregard for the thousands of people experiencing this problem.
If they will not put the money & time in to sufficient support they should just shut down, Or use Sygates software or something. Just an ass backward way to run a company.

No. It's on hold for now
It's on hold, To funny, Stupendous customer support!
Nothing against you antdude! I know it's not you, Etc.
I'm going to get a refund for NPF, Or try to. I'm not sure who yet to contact as far as BBB, Attorney general, FTC, Etc. If they don't give a full refund. A non working product due to the company, They have to give compensation.

@bellsouth.net

Well, I've pretty much gave up waiting. I use the XP firewall now.
