dpPremium,MVM join:2000-12-08 Greensburg, PA kudos:7 | I've been using Irfanview for as long as I can remember. I can't offer any comparisons since Irfanview has been my viewer of choice and I haven't looked at other options. Irfanview and it's freeware Shell Extension from Baxbex makes for a nice addon.
Some IrfanView features:
Many supported file formats Multi language support Thumbnail/preview option Slideshow (save slideshow as EXE/SCR or burn it to CD) Drag & drop support Fast directory view (moving through directory) Batch conversion (with image processing) Email option Multimedia player Print option Change color depth Scan (batch scan) support Cut/crop IPTC editing Effects (Sharpen, Blur, Photoshop filter factory) Capturing Extract icons from EXE/DLL/ICLs Lossless JPG rotation Many hotkeys Many command line options Many plugins Only one EXE-File, no DLLs, no Shareware messages like "I Agree" or "Evaluation expired" No registry changes without user action/permission! and many more -- Write your questions down on the back of a $20 dollar bill and send them to me |

 | IrfanView gets my vote too. It's simple and easy to use. I don't use any of the advanced features, don't know how, but may look into that someday. -- "But now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love." (1 Cor. 13:13) |

I encourage everyone to possibly try out some of these that you haven't had previous experience with an help out with your input...(most have at least Trial Versions available or are Freeware)
And if you choose "Other" could you provide a link?
thanks.. --

I've been an avid user of PSP since the 486/586 DOS POVRay rendering days.
IMHO, the Quicktime Viewer is the worst I've ever had the misfortune of using.
EDIT: When using XP, and in a hurry, I use XPs built-in viewer For all other purposes and O/S, I use PSP

Mele20Premium join:2001-06-05 Hilo, HI kudos:4 | reply to steve1a I've used Irfan view but it is too confusing and difficult to use for me. I like MS Paint. Very simple, but does what I need it to do. I don't need complicated programs like Irfan view or others I have tried. I have Microsoft Picture Viewer, but I far prefer MS Paint. I have at least four viewers, but I never use any except MS Paint. I used to use the others, but Paint is the best for my needs. -- "Everything can be taken from a man or woman but one thing: the last of the human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's destiny." | reply to steve1a Irfanview has been my viewer of choice for awhile now. It's numerous features (already listed by dp ) make it an extremely versatile tool.
Until I switched, ACDSee was used. I got away from it because it seemed some of the newer versions they added at the time seemed to bloat the app. I've also used CompuPic (I liked the thumbnail features when I couldn't do it through the OS). -- Sometimes I think I understand everything, then I regain consciousness. | reply to steve1a I've tried quite a few image viewers but I always end up using Thumbs Plus the most. It a powerful program and the only program that works well with my multi-monitor set up. The other programs especially irfanview want to play slideshows ect across both screen. -- Never play leap frog with a unicorn. |

ACDSee offers convenience and flexibility for viewing and browsing over 50 media formats. In the main window, you can preview thumbnails quickly at your preferred size and highlight individual thumbnails for a larger, adjustable preview. Work with your photos with ease, whether its simply previewing and organizing, getting file information or performing advanced management.
Get quick-access to all program functions and enjoy many helpful features like zoom level locking, full-screen mode, save window position, header and footer captions, image audio playback, and more. Page turning options are also included for multi-page TIFFs directly within this digital photo software.
Manage your digital photos, images or graphics with ease using ACDSee digital photo software. ACDSee is the fastest way to manage the mountains of photos you take with your digital camera. When browsing large numbers of images in the main window, you can view by folders, favorites, albums or photo discs to narrow your browsing. Within these areas, you can further filter by file type, including media, archive, image and others.

SentinelPremium join:2001-02-07 Florida kudos:1 | reply to steve1a I use IrfanView for freeware and an old version of ACDSee Classic that I paid for a long time ago but I still have the serial number and it still works great. But I have come to love IrfanView. I don't like the new ACDSee much at all. |
