Netgear has done something similar with its popular consumer RP614 router. The original version of the RP614 only had a 10 Mbit WAN port. A few months ago, they released RP614v2, which had the added benefit of a 10/100 Mbit WAN port. This resulted in a great deal of confusion at the time, first because the distribution of the new version was not widespread, and second because most retailers were unaware of the existence of two versions of the router or why the slight difference between the two would be important. It was only after some contributors on DSLR posted a scan of the box that the existence of it was confirmed. To this day, Netgear still has not updated their corporate website to indicate the existence of RP614v2, other than on the firmware update section. The original RP614 section still lists the router as having a 10 Mbit WAN port on the Product Data Sheet.
--
"You turn if you want to.
Re: Speed Boost w/ Linksys NR041?

Rainbows2 : The main and really only significant difference between the Network Everywhere NR041 and Linksys BEFSR41 is the fact that the NR041 has always been manufactured with a 10/100 Mbit WAN port. The first generation BEFSR41 came only with a 10 Mbit WAN port, and people using SB MODEMs would experience the "10 Mbit WAN port negotiation issue" with it. The NR041 has been recommended by many people here because it is a relatively inexpensive router with a faster WAN port that has the same capabilities as the BEFSR41. The NR041 is even manufactured by Linksys, just branded under a different name. A look at the product data sheets for both routers shows that they are identical in pretty much every other aspect. You can see for yourself here:

»ftp://ftp.linksys.com/datasheet/befsr41ds.pdf
»www.networkeverywhere.com/products/nr041.asp

GeekNJ mentioned above that the latest generation of BEFSR41 routers may now come with a 10/100 Mbit WAN port. It's odd that you saw a speed difference between the two routers, since you have a Terajet that should not show the signs of the "10 Mbit WAN port" issue. Regardless, it seems that, if you have noticed that significant an improvement in speeds with the NR041, regardless of the actual reason behind it, you should probably hang on to it.
--
"You turn if you want to.
