Relevant topic...;)

It's been awhile since everyone left for there new ISP's..
I was wondering now that you have had time to settle in with them ..how do you feel about them and are you happy with your selections.
I will be the first to admit..I have know problem with Speakeasys service but..the price has to come down
{ just looking at there price plans it looks like i am paying 10$ more a month..after they apply taxes and different fees it's closer to 20$ more...for the same download speed and half the upload i had with DTV DSL }
..or they need to offer us something more in return. Just saying you have world class customer service is not enough for me. If things stay as they are now I will defiantly be shopping around when my contract is up.

My new ISP has pretty much replaced DTC, static IP, servers, etc. and same great speeds. However, I got a $49 price as a DTV refugee. When the contract is over I think it goes up to $59. Not terrible, but I'll keep my options open. I've been reading in the Comcast HSI forum, specifically the Traffic Shaping thread and I'll tell ya, it looks pretty good. I'd be paying $42 for 1.8 mbps or $95 for 3 - 4 mbps. I'm reading the forum for cable gotchas.

I've been with Covad.net for seven months now. I'm really happy with the speed and reliability. I have 1500/384 service and get around 1275/300 in throughput. I've had one problem caused by Verizon. They disconnected my line because their database was screwed up (again). The service is generally good, though first tier leaves a lot to be desired.

On the downside, I'm paying $65/month. That's pretty high compared to other offerings. I felt my options were Verizon (yuck), Covad or Cyberonic. I went with Covad because they've been around through thick and thin, had the static (or fixed) ip option and pretty good upload speed. I need a reliable line because my wife and I work at home a lot.

I'm keeping my eye on Cyberonic. A lot of folks went there because they had a great deal ($50 for 1500/768). The company went through some growing pains and had some problems though. A lot like the early days of Telocity and Directv DSL. When my contracts up in January, I may hop to them if they're stable. But who knows, Covad might drop their prices.

BellSouth Fastaccess DSL. Suprisingly no problems.
I'm satisfied.

Snappydsl here, the service has been great. Pings are a bit higher than with DTVDSL but I am not a gamer so it has not caused me any problems. I am very happy with them...Oh,yeah,1500/256 for $59.95 and a static IP.

Netrox here since an abortive month with (not) Rapid Systems.

Other than PPPoE (static is avail for $10/mo) no problems. Better than DTV in stability (though DTV was good). My monitor ping graphs from BBR are virtually flat lines, and and Line tests are almost always perfect. Routing is very good... mostly via Level3.
The modem is similar to DTV (where DTV was PPPoE), in that it handles the PPPoE so it is very transparent until you try to run a server which I have no real desire to do.

Cyberonic (MCI) here. 1500/768 static IP with no contract. Same price as DTV ($49.99). Even more reliable than DTV. Couldn't be happier.

Went to covad. Slightly better DL speed than I had with DTV, UL is a little less, but that's because I had to go to ADSL from SDSL.
I'm not crazy about paying the $69.00 a month, but it's better than nothing, which was my only other alternative.
I have a fixed IP (not static), but I can run a server and it works just fine.

smithjm, it may not be an option or something you want to do, but Covad will knock $5/month off of the telesoho package if you let them autobill your credit card. I do that, it's 65/month, I get an email every month regarding the transaction.

At the risk of sounding like a smartass....what the hell is the difference between a fixed IP and a static IP?

Thanks jydub, I'll look into that since they are already auto-billing my CC.

Maximus,

So far I have seen no obvious difference except when I set up the router. A fixed IP by Covad's definition means that you still use DHCP but you get the same IP address every time.

Well, I am still with Netrox and very happy with them. It's funny how Hayward ended up with Netrox too after defending rapdisys so much and getting into pissing contests with me about it a while back

Good for you... I hope you're as happy with them as I am...

later!

OH don't give me that crap, I no more defended them than Telocity or DTV... I did however with all of them always question blanket general over statement, and plain falsehoods.

For whatever reason RS could not do for BS customers what they thought they could. Was it all their fault... I don't think so as they seem to do just fine in their native Verizon FL territory... bridging the gap with BS proved a problem.

My only real problem with them was when that became abundantly clear they just clammed up rather than communicating.
They no longer even offer BS customer residential service, because of whatever the fiasco was.

What's past is past, it was no big deal, just a month of MINOR inconvenience, not loss of service.

Been with Sonic since the very end of last year. Everything they do is more competent that directvdsl. Can't complain at all. As a matter of fact, I just updated my review.

Initially I went with Speakeasy, which was a terrific nightmare. Thankfully, they let me go from my contract after numerous customer service related gaffes. I went to Covad next, 5 static IPs with the telesoho, and it has been outstanding service. No billing headaches, no drops, nice speed, servers are ok. Level 1 tech support is a little weak, but hey ... they have a level 2! Those guys are good.

I have WideOpenWest cable at 1,500/300 at $39/mo. I have had no downtime in the last year until yesterday. I did not need the static IP, and the 300 cable upload is almost as good as the S-DSL was averaging, which rarely got to the rated 700-1000 anyway.
