 | Has anyone used the Motorola Signal Booster? I'm VERY curious if this helps out. I can only find a few reviews, not enough to make a decision tho.. The few reviews out there seem that it has helped, but was wondering if any members here are using it.
Motorola Signal Booster |
|
 | Why do you think you need this product installed on your line? Signal problems? |
|
 | Right now, I would just like some info if anyone is using one. If it has helped/worsened their signal level. I "Suspect" a signal problem here, but I can't get to my Diag page due to me behind a Gateway. Also, I can't bypass the gateway, being it's Wireless. It only happens once in a great while.. Nothing too bad, but would like some more info on it, before I make a decision.. |

 | reply to Fraggboy6 I have a motorola signal booster. I bought it for problems with my television set in my living room which was fuzzy on the low channels. Since I did buy it and had comcast internet I did a few speed tests before and after the installation. Good news: Worked well for the TV. Bad news: Did nothing for internet speeds |

| AHH, Thx for the info jjwhite21. I'm not looking for increase of internet speeds.. Just a little more stability(not much)..

When you say you have a wireless gateway, is that also a NAT router? If so, you can temporarily change its settings to allow you to connect to your modem's diag pages. Change the following on your router: IP address - 192.168.100.2 Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway - 192.168.100.1 -- You want the truth? You can't handle the truth! |

 | I have tried to set up my LAN IP scheme via the modems IP, to no avail(like you stated), BUT with the exception of my Default Gateway, which I put 192.168.100.2, instead of 1. Maybe that's where I messed up?!
Yes, it is a NAT router.
I can get one pretty cheap($25.00), thus seeing if it's worth the $$$! |

Big_DPremium join:2003-06-02 Augusta, GA | Yes thats what you messed up. Try it as I posted and see if it works. It very well is possible the booster will make things worse. It only amplifies what is there...so if you have a noisy signal, it now becomes a really strong noisy signal. Amplifiers only work well when you have a very clean but weak signal. -- You want the truth? You can't handle the truth! |

imrfPremium join:2002-06-06 Utica, MI | reply to Fraggboy6 You might be better off buying one from Comcast directly, usually they are $20-$40 depending on region, while the Motorola costs $80.Also if you buy it through Comcast you will have their support for it.If the you buy the Motorola one and start having problems then Comcast will shift the blame to your own equipment and not do anything about it until you remove it. |

A better signal to the modem generally will not increase/decrease speeds. It will allow the modem to more easily obtain and maintain a signal lock.
I saw the Motorola signal booster on some site quite a while back but thought it would be useless...sounds like it really works. -- The world is full of idiots. |

 | reply to Fraggboy6 Signal Boosters and cable modems do not mix well!!!! If you do not have consistent service consider troubleshooting your cable lines, connectors, and such. Signal boosters often cause problems with cable modems. |

| reply to Fraggboy6 Of the available signal boosters the motorola model is one of the better ones. If you are running a lot of tvs of a split they can work well. As for boosting modem signals, it is a much better idea to get comcast to balance the signal correctly at the tap. Speed is not directly affected by signal strength. If you see a speed decrease on a low amplitude signal you are having other problems, such as packet loss. -- Registered Bandwidth Offender #40812 |

 | reply to Big_D Big_D: I've tried it both ways with no go.. I did it last night, and I lost connection to the internet.. So, I had to fix it after work today..
imrf: Thx for the heads up! If this deal falls through, then I'll probably get one through Comcast.
Thx all for your input on it. Appreciate it very much! I have limited Basic cable(Just for the HUGE Discount(NOT!)), and they come in a little bit fuzzy. So, I disconnected it, and am just running it straight through to my cable modem. My roommate is kinda mad, but he doesn't pay for the bill, so Tough!! :D Gotta Have Priorities!! |

Did you make the changes to the WAN IP or to the LAN IP on the router? It has to be done to the WAN IP. It is normal for you to lose your connection to the internet when doing this, but you will be connected on the same subnet as your modem. If you go to »192.168.100.1, you should get the diag pages. -- You want the truth? You can't handle the truth! |
|
 | AHH!! No, I did it on the LAN side. BRB with some screenies..
THX! |

Big_DPremium join:2003-06-02 Augusta, GA | Sorry about that, I forgot to specify. Sometimes you get posting too fast and skip the small details -- You want the truth? You can't handle the truth! |
|
 | Well, I did change the WAN IP to 192.168.100.2, Subnet to 255.255.255.0, and Gateway to 192.168.100.1, but NO GO! I don't know what else to do.. It's a bit too far to run a Cat-5 cable to my Gateway, thus using Wireless. |
