A look at traceroutes with ping plotter is very revealing.<br>(See attachment)<br><br>The first traceroute is a good one from one month ago (could as well have been from yesterday--the problem only started today).  The second one is from tonight.<br><br>Notice the change in routers over the first couple hops (in Baltimore).  Much higher ping, lots of packet loss.<br><br>Looks like they are having router problems in Baltimore, and currently have everyone crammed onto an alternate router.<br><br>I've seen this happen about 2 or 3 days over the past 2 years of my service. Its 8:35 right now ans so far no disconnects for about an hour or two. Called tech support and they said it was because my phone cord to the DSL modem uses an extension cord to get to the phone jack but why wasent this happening before but today. THIS SUCKS and now I cant get on MSN it says there might be a problem with there service or its my connection problem ARGGG!!!!! CAN anyone help me thanks]]></description>

When I have my regular phone line and the DSL line plugged into a splitter, if someone attempts to call me, the line will ring once and then become static.  If I unplug the DSL line, then I can receive inbound calls, but obviously no Internet.  I've try replacing the splitters and checking the filters.  Everything was fine up until this morning.  <br><br>I'm also getting 54 down / 136 up.  I'm about to call Verizon. Power cycling both the modem and then the router did not seem to have any effect.<br><br>Their system status page &raquo;<A HREF="http://cgi.verizon.net/systemstatus/status.asp?status_type=DSL&amp;template=central" >cgi.verizon.net/systemstatus/sta&middot;&middot;&middot;=central</A> has "nothing to report".  So maybe they don't know about it, yet.  Call in and report it!<br><br>EDIT:  I just tried connecting it to my WinXP box directly with WinXP's built in PPPoE support.  At first I got an error code 619.  I tried again to connect and it worked.  I switched back over to my router and it's working OK now, too.  Speed test gave 1508 / 137 and 1510 / 136 to the NJ speed test here at DSLR.  Maybe it's fixed... maybe it's not.  (I never noticed slowdown; it just outright wasn't working when I checked it at noon today).<br><br>EDIT #2:  I briefly could not connect while trying to post this.
