 | Uh, ok Uh, yeah, AOL should ditch its brand name and 25 million subscribers because "everyone knows it sucks".
Yes, there a lot of people (me included) who wouldn't use AOL if it was free, but there are a lot more who think it is the cadillac of Internet access. AOL's name is still doing it more good than harm, although it will be interesting to see if they can keep customers going to broadband. |

They are not trying to keep customers from going to broadband. They want them to and use AOL as a BYOA for broadband content. |

Why don't they do that? Because they will always be able to con newbies into thinking their bloatware/spyware/adware packed crap is great. I need AOL so I can chat with my friends". -- "Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. Re: Uh, ok 300-400kbps and you're happy? Are you 19K ft from the CO or what? I got the same run around when I cancelled AOL DPC. Offered free months and the like. After telling them no 20 times I would finally get a conf# that I have cancelled but then the next bill would come and I was charged again...or I would be charged for the ISP but not the satellite side (they called it AOL high speed on my bill)...then the next month I would get charged for the satellite side and not the ISP. Then they would claim it wasn't a good conf#. Eventually I had to take the matter to my back (the credit card issuer) to get the charges reversed. And to add insult to injury, I was minimally 20 min on hold every time I would call to try and get it straightened out.

 | reply to storm64007 I meant "keep customers who are switching to broadband with AOL, through AOL High Speed or BYOA." Sorry it was not clearer. |
