If AOL made it available to connect to the Internet without the bloated browser, and at a cheaper price, they would have more customers. They could still keep the awful browser for people who like it, and for broadband customers who like logging on whenever they want to use the Internet. The main problem with AOL broadband is that it isn't an always on connection - you have to open up AOL, wait for it to actually open, then log in, and then wait some more. This almost completely defeats the purpose of having a broadband connection.

If you knew what you were talking about you would know you dont need to open up AOL browser anymore to connect to the internet. And they are not pushing for people to get "their" broadband service(they just use your telcos service and line anyway) but to use your OWN broadband service and use them as a BYOA content provider. Its amazing that 90 percent of you have no reading comprehension skills..LOL! You might disagree with it and hate AOL or like it..but damn..read before posting and get your facts straight. HEEHEE. Yeah, $15 to get spammed and flooded with banner ads on EVERY friggin' window on their service. Bitchen. Their so-called exclusive content is hardly exclusive. So far all I've heard is shameless Time Warner self-promotion music videos(which from Launch.com you can get free REAL music videos from artists from other labels, not just TW). News? You can get streaming news for free...it's called television. AOL radio? Yeah, it's called Netscape radio and is also free. AOL IM...downloadable as a separate client. What, you can't go to WebMD on your own? You can go to Weather.com on your own? You can run a 3rd party P2P app on your own? Well, we're talking about AOL customers...maybe they can't. $15 a month is the cost of ignorance. -- "Countries...have a right to be free, and we a right to aid them, as a strong man has a right to assist a weak one assailed by a robber or murderer." --Thomas Jefferson, 1816.

Again, BYOA is 9 bucks. 15 bucks is for unlimited dial up which most people dont use. Of course everyonre that file shares on AOL use other file sharing clients but ALSO AOLs great filesharing methods..it is different and works very well but you obviously have no idea. The concerts are FULL streaming 2 hour concerts..not video clips that you can get anywhere. If you want cnn..you pay for a cnn pass..if you want nascar..you pay for a nascar pass..ECT, ECT, ECT.With BYOA it all comes included.
| | | | | No banners dork, that comment shows how ignorant you are. They even have their own pop blocker now, and easily the best spam protection in the business, hands down. Step out of the 1990's dude, you need a reality check. | |

| | | I have no idea why you're still trying to defend AOHELL. You can get the identical services at lower prices without the bloated software, nagging ads, and intrusive spyware that they package. Why not just admit that simple fact, switch to a real ISP, and enjoy a better broadband experience? -- "Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning." -- Rich Cook | |

| Re: If AOL did this, less people would hate it... HAHA! I could give a crap what anyone uses..as long as they are happy. In no way am i sticking up for any ISP or service..i am simply stating THE FACTS about how AOL is NOW(the software is extremely different from old AOL) and why some people like it and why some people pay for content be it from AOL, or MSN, or REALONE,or YAHOO, ect.

| | | | | | Re: If AOL did this, less people would hate it... I use AOL DSL for my business and Optimum Online cable for my home. I use AOL DSL for my business because they are the cheapest DSL provider for businesses in my area. Other DSL providers, like Verizon and Earthlink, jack up their business DSL prices. I was about to cancel AOL DSL when Verizon introduced their Freedom packages for business, which lowered their business DSL price to $47.00. When I called to cancel my AOL DSL plan AOL lowered my price to $39.95, with unlimited dialup, for a year and without a contract. They also gave me a month free from DSL charges, since they charge DSL (now $16.05 for me) and dialup ($23.90) separately. If all of the DSL providers that I mentioned had the same prices, I would have chosen one of the other two over AOL, but since AOL has the better prices, I choose AOL. I always use either Internet Explorer, or Mozilla, instead of AOL's browser, btw, and it makes the experience a little better. | |
