Two routers, one in bridged mode

Hi!

So, I have a D-link DI-614+ wireless router and a Billion BIPAC 711-CE ADSL modem router.

I've set up the Billion in 1483 Bridged IP LLC mode (in WAN config) and plugged it into the Wan port of the Dlink.
Then the PPPoE config in the WAN config of the Dlink router.

And here is what I see in Status>Device info :
MAC Address **-**-**-**-**-**
Connection PPPoE Connected
IP Address 212.239.***.**
Subnet Mask 255.0.0.0
Default Gateway 212.239.***.** (same as IP address)

Problem is the subnet that should be 255.255.255.0 like all my network !
I cannot ping the Billion (router in bridge mode) : is that normal ?
I suppose I forgot sth in the config of the first router... I'd like to know : when in bridged mode, does a ADSL router-modem become a simple ADSL modem ? OR Do I have to play with some settings ?

I need your help

Thanks.

The Subnet Mask is the Subnet of your ISP. That is not the network you are on. You shouldn't be able to ping the Billion adsl modem once you setup your PPPoE connection on the router no matter what. That modem isn't on the network once a computer has connected through it. You can have the modem set on bridged or PPPoE. Just dont have a username and password on it. Your modem acts the same whether in bridged or PPPoE. All a bridged connection does is authenticate with the mac address of the modem instead of with the username and password. DSL used to be all bridged technology. With more and more users coming on it has become inefficient so DSL companies like bellsouth have started using PPPoA and BBG connections which require a username and password. Your billion modem has the option to select one or the other. PPPoE or Bridged. If you have a Username and Password in your modem you can set it to bridged then connect with your router, RAS, or another PPPoE client. Or you can reset the modem to factory defaults to clear the username and password. It doesn't matter what the modem is set to. Just as long as no username and password are stored in it. Hope this helps.
