I'm here on the East Coast with power still on. Philadelphia (PECO) cut the links to the affected part of grid when the voltage started dropping. Miami's got storms, NY has no power, Philly is 90 degrees and sunny with air conditioning working just fine.. go figure.

Yeah, isn't it hilarious that an elderly woman in NYC could be dying from heat exposure right now? </sarcasm>

Actually it is now quiet down here in Miami. Little breezy but there is blue sky now.

"It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt."

Do you realize how many people could potentially be stuck in elevators or subway cars? How are they supposed to "open a window?" A "little power outage" that extends from New York to Detroit...good call.

Also keep in mind all the secondary effects, like how hard it probably is for many people to get an ambulance who desperately need it.

And how about with all the traffic signals out, I'm sure accidents are happening. Hopefully no one will be seriously injured.

There are people who depend on the power grid to live. These folks require respirators in order to breath. They usually have battery backups, but those can only last for so long. Opening a window will do these folks no good at all...

I honestly hope this was just some sense of sick humor. I don't personally see any humor in the situation. And honestly feel some people are being very light hearted about the situation. I also feel the Mayor of New York and the Governor are morons. Yes the Governor did ask the Mayor if he wanted the National Guards help - but the dumb Mayor said no were bad --- New York city we can handle it - but tonight or later he'll be begging for there help after things get crazy - maybe I'll be proved wrong on this. but it would seem like common sense to bring in the extra help. It would smart of the Governor to overrule the Mayor in this case.

As for people dying because of heat - heat is in fact a cause of serious problems even for healthy people. But older people can definitely suffer serious effects from over exposure to the elements. Heat also is a good source of flaring hostilities. So for you maybe it's just a little inconvenience. But for a lot of people - yes - this can be a life or death situation. Not a personal attack - just a comment related to your post - but please think a bit more before posting.

oh comon, I wasent being serious, Im sure lots of things could happen to people and what not, and I know lots of people depend on the power to be on, but you canot try to make me feel guilty about those people by telling me about every instance of someone's need for the power. So drop it here.

You looking for a flame war? You picked the wrong person to start in with. Your attitude strikes me as uncalled for and I don't care if I get a mod edit stating just that. No one tells me when to drop it. And honestly I find your sense of humor pretty tacky and petty!! Maybe one day if you have to suffer as others have to on a regular basis - your perspective and lack of good humor will change. I may not be from New York - but I've got plenty of there attitude!!

So many whiny people here today it seems. Lighten up. Granted a power outage is going to cause serious problems for some and only light inconvienience to others.

Personally, I don't care what happens. Not my problem, even if it was, I'd just go make some lemonade and take a walk. Yeesh.
