Sheesh..Actually I was enjoying of this blackout. I BBQ in my backyard, hop on my kiddie pool  and just chilled. Cuz I know its just matter of time before the power will return.
I still remember back in 1977(maybe some of us wasnt born yet). Thats was bad ok...It was one week or less of blackout...man ppls was looting like a pig in East York section...I believe it was in Pitkin Ave,Belmont,Liberty and some other ave..those block got looted badly. So this 2003 black out wasnt bad at all to be honest.

No, young person, you are both right and wrong...
The "first world" nations have earned the right to be both profitable and comfortable. We've done that by giving our businesses, and our people freedoms. We've taxed them to build infrastructure and they have allowed that. That infrastructure has helped us to build better, more profitable systems...
Do we have a responsibility to some "po dunk", "piss ant", society that has failed to do the same thing? That is a much harder question than you might realize... We may, or we may not.
This country and many outher "first world" countries earned the rights they have by REVOLUTION. The courage or our forefathers to fight against tyrants. Those men and women BOUGHT the rights we have. If some "weinner snitzel" country in south africa, can't muster the courage to stand up to a tyrant and kick his arse, why should we have to go in and BAIL THEM OUT??? because YOU think we should? HARDLY... because CNN thinks we should???? PpppLllllleeeeeaaaaasssseeeee????
Son, the WORLD works in a VERY simple way. It really does. It never ceases to amaze me that CNN, FOX, and all the rest of the IDIOTS that sit in front of telepromptors and make moronic noises daily, fail to understand this simple concept...

I doubt that the traffic lights that day made any difference in the amount of traffice accidents...the streets were so packed, cars were moving at about 3 mph, even if they weren't, the fastest you can ever get up to within the city on a normal day is around 25.
