I guess what I'm asking is why isn't the whole states out of power instead of just cities? (thank God the whole states arent out) -- I want to die in my sleep like my grandfather...not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car ... (posts) ... AIM ... |

kenc59 join:2002-06-24 Buffalo, NY | Buffalo NY seems to be in the middle of the affected area. As you see I have power. It seems to be about 50% affected region wide. It has to do with the grid ripple effect. If a plant goes down, others try to compensate, if the draw is too great they overload, and it goes on rippling, But if a local engineer/technician sees the problem, he can in some cases "isolate" his plant to a local grid, thus preventing overload and shutdown, at the same time continue to provide power to his local sub-grid...hope that is simple enough... |

| reply to pcdebb Erie PA is listed on CNN's map of affected cities. Here, we had brownouts for about 2 hours, yet Crawford county south of us (not on CNN's map) had a total blackout. I'm sure a lot of the surrounding areas all over were affected also, not just in my region -- Join us! Powerlink User's Forum [text was edited by author 2003-08-14 22:43:11] |

Rama767 join:2002-08-02 White Plains, NY | reply to pcdebb It's pitch black here in White Plains, a suburb of New York City. So I'm assuming surrounding areas in most of those cities are also affected. However, I hear parts of Long Island are starting to get their power back...go figure. My area was one of the last to get broadband, and I bet we'll be the last ones to get restored power too haha. |
