Bottom Line F$SCK Microsoft

We have arrived. Microsoft has finally blown it... We have a wrom which has truly saturated the backbones and the grid has been the first casualty...

Let us see what ELSE gets hosed up in the next two days before this thing blows up...

Have you done your updates, lately?

CNN had an expert on the power grid on. He stated that some of the communications between the plants are over RF and some over fiber. While he wasn't specific, he gave me the impression that it does not go over the internet, but uses a private network.

You know I am sure he was correct. I am sure that between some gateway at the local lan and some other power station the link is private *BUT* let us suppose that someone decided in the interest of expense at one or another power station that BOTH links should go thru the same router.

Now we have an interesting issue. The Internet traffic that goes to the two or three hundred PCs in the power plant goes thru the SAME PIPE as the mission critical data, mind you ONLY at that point... BUT THAT ROUTER IS OVERLOADED... soooooo

Just as a side note my fellow human, in no way are the networks of power lines connected directly to home users un-patched XP boxes from Wal-Mart. Also most power plants have their own dedicated fiber lines that by pass the public internet in alot of places.

In a lot of places? Not all places though.

Where ever the fault lies you can be sure that our government and businesses responsible will cover and tidy it up.

I find this whole thing pretty amusing because it demonstrates the kinks in our(the USA) system.
Everybody seems to think that we are invulnerable. Surprise, we are not.
The only people who are handling this well are the people affected. They are rolling with punches. They already know how lame our infrastructure is and is dealing with it.

Thank you for that unsubstantiated comment. I really appreciate your PROOF of your point. It makes me feel EVER so secure...

*YOU* say they are not connected in any way... I say that many routers have multiple ports. I say that *ANY* router may have private network ports and public network ports. I say that a router's CPU can be overloaded by traffic on it's public ports and the CPU overload will increase latency on the private ports... *YOU* say IN NO WAY... I say, you are clueless.

You criticize his lack of proof but do you have any proof of your own? No. Just speculation.
