Nope. No need for cases when you're on a budget!

If these were anywhere that people or pets might be around, then I'd want cases to protect them. However, they're on a shelf behind my table/desk, so there's no real danger of any damage being done to them. Eventually they'll move to my basement (where they'll be even better off).

I know the switch was set properly because in one position I got link lights, and in the other position I didn't get link lights. The problem was that even though all the outward indications (link lights, etc.) said it was working - it still wouldn't grab an IP address from the router.

No resolution to those problems. Link lights as if everything works, just no IP negotiation. Weirdest thing I ever saw.

I have everything plugged straight into my main hub - good enough for now.
