Re: Free WiFi Play Day on Saturday, August 23rd said by SixOfNine: There will be people there to show how to set up your laptop for WiFi at Starbucks, McDonalds, free hotspots, etc., how to set up a home wireless network (WLAN), also people who provide broadband Internet access for their neighborhoods or their communities, and we expect a couple of cellular experts who can talk about the differences between WiFi and the growing variety of data services available from the cellular carriers.
Will vendors be selling the wireless hardware? I've been thinking about getting whatever (I don't even know what I need!!) for my laptop so I can try out the local hotspot. If I could one-stop buy/learn it would be fantastic!! |

Good question. The planners were discussing this recently and somebody thought that there might be a no-money-can-change-hands rules at the CIT building. I'll try to get an answer to this question tomorrow morning. In any case I think the learning experience will be invaluable.

JTRockvilleData HoPremium,MVM join:2002-01-28 Rockville, MD | I can always stop en route and get what I need. But if folks there will take the time to teach, I'd rather give them the dough - even if it's a bit more than I'd spend over-the-counter. |

There's discussion of setting up a swap table where WiFi types can sell their surplus gear.
Also, there's actually rent being paid for the space, so the no-money-can-change-hands rule most likely does not apply. I'm still checking to see if YDI is going to set up a sales booth.

Looks like YDI will be taking orders but not selling items on site. However, it also looks like the swap table is a go.
