The "quote and add nothing of your own" thing has gotten really annoying. But how would the mods stop it? Just delete those posts? Sounds like too much trouble.

I doubt this is done to show your agreement with the previous poster... I say it's more of a 'post whore' issue.

It can serve a purpose and if it gets out of hand, it can be excised from a thread easily.

I don't see why you can't add "agreed" or "well said!" instead. Even if it is deleted, the post still counts.
