MustardMan : I agree with the above poster. The D-link 614+ Rev A has a very wimpy processor. Web browsing and email is no problem. Probably 20-30 computers no problem just like you can hook that many computers to a cable modem and still be happy with the bandwidth everyone is getting. Thats because generally not everyone is downloading MP3's or whatever. At least not simultaneously.

I know from my experience with edonkey that the D-link can't handle that at all. 32 edonkey client connections is about the most I can maintain (that's connections on 1 computer, not 32 computers connected to the router) and there are other problems. Not sure how that translates into other uses though.

If you plan on having more than a couple wireless connections I would highly recommend the Rev B just to be sure.

Would they all get a connection to the AP, yes.
rogertipps : yeah i ment to say that 32 people behind a 614+ playing on a server online might be a good strain, but all LAN, as you have done, isn't a problem for the 614+.

I think the general rule for wireless clients on a SOHO AP is about 20 users simultaneously. Since they all aren't using the bandwidth at the same time they would probably be fine in a hotspot environment.

Of course the more constant traffic the less users would be tolerable.

I would guestimate the 614+ could do a decent job with say 5 users doing web browsing/email. If they are all trying to play some serious online game or streaming probably 5 would be pushing it.

As for Battlefield 1942... 32 is no problem at all. The largest LAN party I have had was about 35. No problem at all. Of course keep in mind this is because most, if not all, of the traffic generated is from the local LAN to the local LAN. We run our own server of course.

rogertipps : It probably all depends.

It is probably determined by how much bandwidth each use will use.

Plus the processor is only so powerful.

If there is 10 wireless users all streaming MP3s from a main file server I imagine you couldn't get much more users on the wireless portion because of the bandwidth limitations.

If you use the 614+ as the main switch in a LAN party where everyone is playing Battlefield 1942 I bet 32 PCs would be quite a strain.

This is all theory, but if you just have 20 wired users in an office and 5 wireless users in that office and they all mainly use the network/internet for email, web browsing, and file sharing, the 614+ and a switch(s) would probably do fine.

You have to remember that this is a SOHO (Small Office/ Home Office) router/switch. How much does an average Small Office or Home Office have? I am not sure really. I'd imagine it is about 2-30 users.
