Re: Something new on the horizon?

OK, so is there a way to hide the side menu bar?

when you click "show navigation sidebar" after you have clickedc preview, it blanks your text out. don't know if this is a site bug or a problem with IE.

... Sorry, but ...

... I really don't care for ANY of the changes made in the last few days, or hours ... I know change is inevitable and my opinion doesn't count for much, but I just don't see any improvement in organization, or site navigation, or convenience ...

... maybe in a few weeks I'll hate it a little less, but day-um that's harsh ...

... also found it odd that neither the thread nor the link for new features implemented mentions any of them ... it's almost a month stale ...

... just sayin' ...

People hate change. No matter what you do if its a little different from what people are used to there is always gonna be someone to complain about it. Personally I like the top bar, its cleaner. I hardly ever used any of the other options, well except the all forums link, but I can live without it.
Not ALL people hate change. I like what I've seen so far. Thanks, Justin!

There was a "top bar"?? Gee, I never noticed!

(Am still searching for the graphical emoticons in IMs. They're bound to show up any minute, I just feel it...)

i'd really like to see the top toolbar come back; personally i liked all the links at the top and can't see any reason for them to be moved.

IMHO, I like the new changes, but the organization needs to be improved. The page is simply too crowded.

It'll be interesting to see the final product, since it looks like changes are still underway. I almost always hate change at first. Shortly thereafter I get used to it and have trouble remembering the way it was before. Then things change again, and life goes on.

I dont like it. TO me, this was 1 of if not the best layout site on the net. You know the saying "If it isn't broken, dont fix it"

Also, if your new to the site, u wouldnt know what those little icons in the corner are. The old setup, it said what each link was for, and it was very ez to navigate

As mentioned earlier, Internet Explorer has a links bar that you can use to help you through your withdrawal.

I have bbr there, it takes me to the all forums page with one click convienence.

One small thing, there used to be a link to favorites (highlighted in SS) from the "posts" page. It seems to be missing.

Is it possible to "find" this?

Question justin See Profile

When you click on "Posts" on the bottom now, it does not re-populate your Favorite forums -- is this supposed to be happening? Just curious.

This has now been fixed, thanks very much.

If you have no forums set as your fav that link will bring you to the all forums page. If you have 1 or more forums set up as a fav it will bring you to the fav forums page.

I can live with all of these changes EXCEPT separate buttons for favorites and all forums; I like perusing most of the forums, but they are not all my favorites.

(And I'm okay with losing the top bar IF those icons on the left are on every page; the advantage of the top bar was that, unlike the various links on forum pages for All/Favs/etc., it was ALWAYS and CONSISTENTLY there...)

Clicking on "Forums" in the left navigation menu will bring you to the All Forums page.

Ahh, I see, said the blind man.

Still, this raises some interesting points:

- the forum pages used to not have the sidebar, but had the top bar. (granted, not consistent with other parts of the site)

- the side bar ostensibly takes up more real estate on the screen than the top bar, yet one of the reasons given for removing the top bar was "waste of space".

I just wish I knew what the *idea* was behind the changes. Adding new features or restricting things because of problems is one thing, changing a basic fundamental part of the navigation of the system (seemingly without warning) is another.

Couldn't have said it better. It looks pretty good as of now. It looks more professional and cleaner now.

Exactly. The side bar is not needed on every page and it just takes up screen space in my opinion. There is an option to turn it ON from the posting editor, but no option to turn it OFF from elsewhere. Fix that little bug and I can probably live with the rest

I agree...we at least need to give all the new features a chance, so if there are problems, we can give Justin some examples of what may not be working as intended.

I think that is the problem. Most people don't know WHY a lot of the changes were made, so to sign on to BBR and suddenly see a news header where their top bar used to be is going to through them for a confusing little spin.

Folks, you can tell just by reading through this thread that it's a dynamic process. If you think about it, the alternative would be to shut the site down, play around with the changes, then open it up when you're satisfied.

The man is trying to make some improvements, but it's sometimes a trial and error type thing. He's already implemented some of your suggestions in this thread ... give him a little time.

Quite often making a change here affects three things over there. It will get all sorted out, and in the end, we'll all just have to take a little time to get used to things, just like we did when we first came to the site. You may not see the need for change, but it may be due to something that isn't obvious to all of us, or just plain improvement.

I just logged back in and noticed the nav bar missing, and noticed the 4 icons under the BBR logo, very nice, this is something I can live with for navigation, Thanks Justin.

The news portion I commented on earlier, I wasn't trying to wine or anything, if it seemed like that, I am sorry, however I was just trying to comment, that I liked the way the news was before, and yes, I did click on the news from time to time, but I prefer from time to time, to click on the large BBR logo, and go right to the front page to read it.

Things are looking pretty slick around here now, and clicking on forums does take us right to All Forums, which is something I can get used to.

And also some changes suggested within the last month or 2 in this forum as well, I believe.

And you're right, it's like trying to knock over just 1 or 2 dominoes in a room full of dominoes. Some others are going to unintentionally fall, get rearranged, etc. until a resting place is achieved.

Then requests for new features will appear in this forum again, and some will be made, and uproar will occur again.

It looks like view 1 and view two show the same things except view 1 only shows the forums that you have selected as your favourites instead of the all forums view.

I would prefer it defaulting to all forums view when clicking on the red envelope, but I like that the icons are on all pages now including the IM screen.
