Re: Firewall Poll

i've gone back to using my old AtGuard, and using Conseal as well... AtGuard detects (and also blocks) anything going in or out of my computer, and has a great set of features like the Ad Blocker, and the ability to block javascript/java/activeX and popup boxes, all configurable from site to site or domain to domain... it also has that really nice Dashboard feature so i can at a glance keep an eye on what's going on in terms of network connections, cookies etc... it's simple, powerful and i wish more firewalls were like that Conseal runs in the background minimised and hidden, and does a good job of catching/blocking anything AtGuard might miss (as far as i know AtGuard hasn't missed anything in the few years i've had it!)

otherwise it would be NPF but i really don't like the interface to that anymore

any thoughts on this setup?

If a trojan should slip by, I am relying on my Norton Anti-Virus to kick it.
Bad idea... Norton AV is NOT designed to catch Trojans. It's designed to catch viruses. Many individuals think viruses and Trojans are the same. They're actually two different animals and you need a program specifically designed to look for each on its own. Yes, Norton will catch some of the common Trojans, but the program does NOT look for all known Trojans.

I was under the impression that AG failed the Leak Test. Is that enough to make you concerned?

Quite true. AtGuard is indeed Masquerade Vulnerable and ironically so is Conseal as far as I know.

While I use ZoneAlarm Pro as my "Firewall" I also have installed BlackIce Defender set to Paranoid as an IDS.

I am assuming you wanted the poll to reflect firewall, so I voted for ZoneAlarm Pro (I recently upgraded from ZoneAlarm).

this from LeakTest using AtGuard only -

Unable To Connect

LeakTest was unable to
connect to the GRC
NanoProbe Server.

i seemed to pass?

i presume 'masquerade vulnerability' means if an .exe gets replaces with a trojan or something with the same filename... but doesn't AG control which ports and sites applications can use?

oh well back to norton i go then lol bit surprised about the Conseal being listed i must say damn i really liked that dashboard too!
