Would it be a bad idea to run dc on my server?

I'm running debian server on a p3 coppermine. But nobody knows about it, so it usualy utilizes less than 1% of the cpu.

But would a distributed computing slow it down or freeze it?

No, DC will have no impact on your computer at all. DC programs only use UNUSED cycles. I run multiple applications along with one DC program with NO problems.

I have a Debian/GNU system with less than 1% utilization. Seems reasonable to run the processor the other 99% of the time on a DC project. When I do a "make" on some software I'm developing, it runs as quick as before I loaded the RC5-72 project.

Help Make a Difference

Its good to see so many familiar names and friends from various Distributed Computing teams post to this thread.

Keys Capt, you did an excellent job of explaining the purpose of each of the projects and their current status.

To anyone who reads this and is not affiliated with any team ... you can make a difference by turning your unused CPU capability into something really worthwhile, and I urge you to give one of these projects a try.
