 | I use Westelcom in Plattsburgh, NY. BroadBand Reports say only 384/90 DSL is available in the area, but I have Westelcom's JetNet DSL. It is 768k/128k. I love it; I get these speeds all the time plus some. |

I have had the business version for over a year now running at 512/512 in Saranac Lake. They have been a good provider so far. Very little down time, responsive staff with a few quirks though. Pings are great and doesn't seem to be oversold.
As for the information here, I don't think that it has been updated in a couple of years. Oh, well. Their loss.
Do you use their spam filtering? How well does it work? Do you know if it works with forwarded email?
If you ever need tech support, here are a couple of tips: 1) If you have phone through them and that is not working either, sometimes you will get a faster response if you call in with a phone problem rather than an internet problem. 2) In the (late?) evenings the tech support switches over to the Watertown office. They don't know too much about the 518 area DSL, but sometimes they make a better effort.
Thanks for the reply. If you have questions about Westelcom that you would like to ask a user rather then the company, post here. I check it pretty regularly and I don't think they look here. |

Greetings from another Saranac Laker: Does Westelcom allow users to run local servers on a residential account, or possibly just on their business class? I'm currently using an Adelphia cable modem that is fairly consistent at 3000+/220+ , and also I'm still on a freebie first month of Verizon DSL, generally 1400+/~135. Using a Xincom "TwinWAN" router, I'm getting results similar to those shown here: »www.lostcircuits.com/network/xin···/8.shtml
Also, does Westelcom have an NNTP server - it's own or out-sourced? - Thanks |

I'm not sure about the server on the residential DSL. I asked my business rep about it when I set up my business DSL and he said there was no problem. I have email, ftp, webcam, http, and pcanywhere all running as 'servers'
As for NNTP they have it, but the binaries don't stay around as long as you would like. But if you are quick, it's not too bad. I'm not sure if there is another one on the northnet side that we have access to or not. I remember that they use to have one that was off a satellite feed. That one might work better, but it's just a guess.
I am also running Vonage VoIP if you are interested. I have been having issues with voice quality lately, but I think it is a Vonage problem and not delay with Westelcom. |
