I'm a n00b but

How are they (verisign) able to handle all of these errant requests? Wouldn't it be like an ultra-massive DoS attack?

not at all since the requests have less headroom to move to it actually takes less usage to do it. and the usage is about 1/8 th of a normal dns look up request.

so in essence yeah it's like a dos but it would take 8 times the traffic to show any sign of load up on thier systems. all requests would be loopback look ups and actually use very little bandwidth as well.

I personally love godaddy and we use it alot for a couple bucks less per name. they have yet to faulter.

Ohhh yeah anyone else thinking this may lead to a free dns style network where the new dns could ignore dns tables from verisign ??? now that would be a sweet reward for the people
