4) Speakeasy employees whose job it is to post on this website and whose company pays broadbandreports are given MVM status.
Kat recieved that MVM because she earned it not because Speakeasy advertises with this site. It is also not her job to post here, she does it of her own free will.
I stand by what I said.
Stand by it all you want. It doesn't make it right or even intelligent for that matter.
If her (Kat's) job was to post here at DSLR then she's doing a crappy job as she only averages about one post/day. There are several forums that have official reps that ARE paid to post and assist customers. What's the problem with that?!?
BTW, I'm fairly certain that Speakeasy does pay DSLR. This is a for profit site. Neither the servers that host this site not the upstream provider Justin has partnered with are free.

 | You should read my original post. I never pointed anyone out. I just stated a fact.
Yes, it's a fact of life that people get paid. And it's a fact of life that other people will point out conflicts of interest that arise.
BBR's journalistic integrity is on the line here -- was this article paid for or influenced through Speakeasy's payments to this site for other business? That is the true question.
And before you get even more hot and bothered, may I point out that perhaps you have a conflict of interest in this discussion too? |

Point taken. To add to your argument Justin is the moderator of the Speakeasy forum. They might be one of if not the biggest customers of DSLR.
As such Justin's running a business and what business in their right mind would smear their biggest customer. This is a precarious time for Independents--even the bigger ones like SE.
Like you I believe that article is leaning a certain way. From a business model perspective I can't blame them. |

| reply to statemachine Perhaps it's time to cut down on the coffee and the paranoia?
If we have a negative article you scream we're biased.. if it's positive you scream we're paid to do it..
What would please you? Impersonal blurbs copied from news feeds? There you go: »news.google.com/ -- Life is too short to be boring |

| Time to retire your "unwitting victim" chant.
What would please YOU?
"Oh, BBR is just SO wonderful! They are the BEST ever! BBR is always looking out for MY best interests. And, my, they'd never, ever, put themselves first!"
Please. If BBR doesn't want criticism, it should stop writing.
Get used to it.
Maybe you should try a happier place. [text was edited by author 2003-09-18 11:12:36] |

nilJava Geek join:2000-11-27 kudos:1 | Theres a difference between criticism (not even asking for constructive) and just constant, baseless complaining.. and insults.

 | Oh, now YOU would NEVER do that. |

| No, I didn't say that.. we all get heated in discussions.. but I would like to think if I do do that I'd have the sense to recognize it and correct myself. Of course, I could be wrong there.. if you see me insulting someone, just use 'hey mods'! -- Life is too short to be boring |

 | reply to nil And just to be MORE constructive... just for YOU, here's a place you can go where it's OK to get paid by ISPs for cheery articles about their companies. |

nilJava Geek join:2000-11-27 kudos:1 | if you're suggesting we have a rule that only negative articles are news, you'd be wrong. -- Life is too short to be boring |
|
 | No, the only thing I'm suggesting is that BBR is getting paid to promote Speakeasy in a "news article."
Go back and read the thread and quit insulting people when you don't understand the argument. That's the second time you've done so -- and both times you jumped into a thread half-cocked. Perhaps you have a conflict of interest too? Hmm? |

nilJava Geek join:2000-11-27 kudos:1 | Read between the lines.. all I'm saying is that just because we post a positive article does not mean we're paid to do it. -- Life is too short to be boring |

 | Excellent! |
