spell5 join:2000-01-26 Boston, MA | Mega thumbs-up I've been with speakeasy for 3+ years and continue to have a positive experience.
On the plus side: 1) My service is rock-solid, never, ever, fail, reliable.
2) Honest pricing. When new and/or less expensive services are offered, they contact me! I recently increased my bandwidth and lowered my monthly cost.
3) Knowledgeable customer support. Never had a drone reading a script.
4) Static IP addresses. No port blocking. No restrictions on how you use your service. Run servers, use bandwidth, whatever. They only ask 2 things. 1-Don't hack/port scan and 2-If you want to run a porn site, they're gonna bill you for bandwidth.
5) You don't have to give them a credit card. We're all adults here. They bill me. I pay.
6) Free equipment. Well, essentially. They've rebated the cost every time I've upgraded.
7) They're encouraging me to offer Wi-Fi service to my neighbors. If I choose to sell it; I set the price and they do the billing. (We split the proceeds.)
CON: 1) Monthly charge changes slightly each month. Their cost is the same but they bill the actual tax which changes slightly each month.
2) They gave shell accounts on one of their servers with some of their packages. Unfortunately, you aren't able to ping from that account (handy to troubleshoot network problems). | | | Thank you. With all the whining going on in here, it is nice to read a post that wasn't in the "I hate Bill Gates Because He's Rich" mode. I am coming up on the end of my third year with SE and wouldn't consider switching. I also had my speeds upgraded and my monthly fees lowered. I like to think of it as customer appreciation. Ok, maybe my 3 year old modem is showing its age, but so what, the amount of rocket science I engage in online is probably equal to the amount that all the whiners are doing, so it just doesn't matter. | |
