Easy, IPSec VPN uses IP Protocols 50 and 51 (ESP and AH) (see this for details)
According what you posted, both those Protocols are only used in IPv6. quote:
50 ESP Encap Security Payload for IPv6 [RFC2406] 51 AH Authentication Header for IPv6 [RFC2402]

Not only used in IPv6, but IPSec is a mandated part of IPv6, but it's optional for IPv4.

There are ways innumerable to setup a 'VPN' without Comcast knowing it.. for example, you can use an arbitrtary port and SSH tunnel though it which is effectively a VPN, but the typical usage of the term VPN refers to IPSec. Lesser used is PPTP, but this would be alost as easy to detect, as it uses well known ports. -- Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.-- Mark Twain |

We have a Comcast Pro ($95 a month) account that we solely use for our VPN... it's used by a branch office with 6 employees, and also by about 10 attorneys during the nights/weekend... So it gets pretty heavy usage. I however never received a letter (to my knowledge)... |

I already asked (see my first post) and it is CCIS, not Pro. -- Tell Comcast to keep or get TechTV: »home.comcast.net/~mbernste/ttv.html

| reply to alura Apparently, this refers to a hybrid-Comcast Pro account ($95/mo, limited to 5 computers). In exchange for an additional $95/mo, the customer is granted permission to connect 5 more computers.

Correct. I am waiting on an email back from regionial HQ, on the VPN question, everyone else I talked to had no idea and had never heard of a cap before. I'm thinking I won't hear anything till next week knowing how long it takes comcast. And I'm for sure not signing that contract as the way its stated. |
