Re: Taking Too Long

It will take a while for all the DNS servers to update and propegate the new records. Of course they could just bring down the web server(s) that run sitefinder then we would see the good old error "page can not be displayed"

I will never use verisign for SSL for my site. They have lost my business for life

Not so. In the case of nonexistent domains, whatever server you query will pass the request up to the TLD server and give you an answer (an IP address or NXDOMAIN error) right away. Unless someone else recently queried the *same* nonexistent name you use for your test.

Anyone want to take bets that Verisign doesn't comply within the next 30 minutes (it's presently 17:33 PDT / 20:33 EDT)?

My guess is that they're simply going to stall and continue to schmooze this "committee" bullsh**.

..and the deadline is 6pm PDT Oct 4th 2003, so that seems like no surprise

I can't get to ICANN right now (quick, alert the conspiracy theorists) and the only other reference I can find is here: »www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/internet/1···dex.html, which names the day but not the time.

Elsewhere in CNN, it says "6pm" without naming the day, though the context suggests that it meant on Friday.

However, I'm 94.23% certain I saw "6pm PDT Saturday" on ICANN documents online.

EDIT: Here it is direct from ICANN, at the bottom of the page.

How Long Will It Take ????

It wouldn't surprise me if Verisign doesn't make the change when they committed to "because of some technicality".

What would lead one to expect ethical behavior all of a sudden?
