It's been a while...

I'm now moved in to my new office. Sweet! I'll have to snap some pics to post. Dim lights, two ceiling fans, nice pretty, but not so functional, wood furniture, a Bose Stereo with two speakers and a sub woofer.

This office concept has been in the works for two years and just now came to fruition. I'm one of three who were reassigned here as a result of the contracting out of our last jobs.

We're the Customer Liaison Center. So far, so good. Time will tell the rest...

I had the misfortune of running a small branch up under my sunglasses and into my left eye while mowing the lawn earlier today. Fortunately, when we called our eye Doctor he was kind enough to meet us at his office. Seems I scratched my cornea. First he applied some drops to dialate my pupil, then he applied some drops that made the pain go away, then had a good look at it, applied a contact lense and prescribed some antibiotic drops. I look even weirder with one dialated pupil. I have to go back Monday morning at 8:00 AM for a recheck.

I forgot to mention, both of our dogs were on leashes...

We found Zoe has a bite mark on her nose as well. Nothing major but it may leave a scar.

Can you believe it, the owner is denying that her dog did anything. Fortunately, we found a witness yesterday. It was a man who was working on a neighbors house, re-bricking a wall. We stopped and spoke to him last night while out for a walk. He agreed that we did no wrong. Animal Control called me in response to my on-line complaint and requested pictures of my bites. They said nothing else mattered, if there was a puncture and I had proof, that was all they needed to take action. I just the other dog really does have current shots. I went to the FOB health unit yesterday and got a tetanus shot to be safe.

Great day in the neighborhood... Took our dogs for a short walk today, just down to the park and around a little. Our dogs are ALWAYS on leashes when we are out. On the way back, we encountered a loose dog about a block away from home. Fortunately, it didn't get close enough to matter and the owner called him back.

When we got to our block, just two yards away from being home, a little white dog (terrier?) from across the street got loose from his tie out or whatever and attacked our female Zoe. He bit her several times but she shows only a few marks on the inside of her lip, nothing else visible. She didn't really fight back much.

After he bit her, the little dog made the attempt to tear into our male dog Rockie. Rockie, being A LOT larger, pretty much just grabbed him and held him in a death grip. I finally got the little dog away from Rockie getting bit on the tip of my middle finger of my right hand and on my little finger of my left hand. Both bled a little and the middle finger still aches, blued the fingernail in the middle and pulled the nail away from the skin a bit. Not sure which one bit me, don't really care.

Our city has a web site where you can report this and other things and I reported this. I called Animal Services and got a recording that said to call 911, I didn't think the event was worthy of 911. But I asked on the complaint report that I filled out to help me verify that the neighbor's dog has had it's shots.

The dogs owner and her kids witnessed the event. When we asked if the dog had it's shots, the lady responded with profanity and affirmed that it did. I hollered that "this is why we have leash laws" and she replied that it was on a leash and I responded "it's NOT NOW! She responded with more profanity and I asked if I needed to call the police, she said to go ahead and call the f'ing police. Perhaps I should have? Time will tell...

It sucks when you can't even walk your dogs...

They had to back up and regroup. The contractor was not staffed for the deluge of calls they received. They let us help users but removed our write licenses to the Remedy helpdesk software so we had to have contractors close the tickets with the information we provide. What a convoluted mess. But, at least our customers are getting the help they needs, even if it's not as timely as it was when we did it all...

Ya gotta love our government... Today is the second time in my career of 34 years when I came to work without any clue as to what I'd be doing when I got there.

My duties, and the duties of my associates and immediate supervisor have been contracted out effective today. We're in limbo until May 1st when we will allegedly be reassigned to our central office in Washington, D.C. The only thing we've been told is that "there will be plenty to do"...

Finally found out what was causing my intermittent CATV and internet service issues.

The tech replaced the cable from the pedestal to my house, it's above ground right now, but they're supposed to bury it soon. They'll also be replacing the tap to get me off the splitter that I'm currently sharing with my neighbor.

BTW, this is in my neighbors yard. Those are NOT my weeds...

Jeremy, our youngest son just called from high atop a mountain in Italy. It was just after midnight when he called. From their current location, they can see all the local fireworks down below them. I sure hope he's taking some pictures...

Saturday I went and picked up a 32" Samsung HDTV. We were going to get the Sony Bravia, but this one actually looked better and has a 4000:1 contrast

Went to the range Sunday. Jambed my freaking thumb reaching into the trunk to get my range bag out. Fortunately it didn't seem to impact my performance.

Helped a friend sight in his mini14 and fired another shooters AR15s, man those were NICE and VERY accurate.

Just wish my vision was a little better for the 25 yard shots, but my opthamologist says I don't really need glasses yet.

Forgot about this thing, catch up time...
Early October, applied for a job back in fleet, didn't get it, but did benefit from doing the application. Got my resume up to date.
10/7/06 First time to the range in YEARS.
10/9/06 Purchased a Handgun
10/12/06 Quit drinking "hard stuff" nightly.
10/21/06 Took CHL class.

Since then, I've been going to the range as often as I can afford to. I've gone with my work associates to an outdoor range and got to fire an AK47, mini 14, M1 Garand, 30-06, a few .22s, SKS, .41 magnum, .45 and a .32. Maybe more that I can't recall... It was a blast.

I also go to an indoor range, which is at the same place I purchased my gun and took the CHL class. The Shooting Gallery. I plan to try others in the area too.

Missed my 8th Yoga class as well, but I've been doing it at home using the VHS tape from VOD or the Kathy Walden DVD. Just finished a 20 minute session. I know I need to add more to it because I was barely sweating when done. I did get a very good stretch though.

Didn't do much of it last week because I was on travel and didn't have enough room in my hotel room. I like to have enough room to fall without hitting any furniture or walls just in case I lose my balance which I tend to do when practicing on carpet with any padding underneath. It seems so much easier on a hard or firm surface using a non-slip mat. The room we use at the FOB looks like slick sealed concrete but it's firm not hard. It does give under direct pressure.

7th Yoga class missed, but I did a 30 minute session at home using the VHS tape I recorded from the Comcast VOD Exercise Programs.

I think the instructor that I liked the most quit. Bummer. I think she was more spiritually "into" Yoga and there for a better candidate to teach others. However, she did tend to blend in a bit of Tai Chi, brush actions i.e. painting the wall and a few other similar movements. I plan to go back to class next Friday and will continue to train on my own on Mondays and Wednesdays.
