FTP and LinkSys Routers - How Much Interest?

How much interest is there in getting LinkSys to more completely handle FTP - especially non-standard ports and server functions? Here's your chance to be heard! Please post your comments here.

The background...

A while back it was mentioned LinkSys had plans to add more ftp handling in their firmware. So far I've been unsuccessful at finding out when this might happen and/or exactly what they plan to do.

It would be great if they added the same functionality, now on standard port 21, to ALL ports. But that only handles outgoing (client) connections. I've wanted to hear they will also handle the server side, too. The PASV IP/PortRange "bandaide" is not feasible with servers on dynamic IPs. LinkSys has an opportunity to cover all of this making life much easier for their customers that use ftp.

Let me add my voice; it's a pain not to be able to properly run a PASV FTP server...

I agree completely. We have a strong need for better FTP handling, including non-standard ports on both client and server sides. I think that FTP use is more common than some people think, and there are certainly people that have shown reluctance to purchase Linksys routers due to the current FTP limitations. Adding better FTP functionality in the firmware will only be good for Linksys and its customers.

Lemme add my .02 I have been running a 467gig FTP for about a year actually I add 80-100 gigs every few months I also have 3 servers including the FTP SERVER. This is all at my home I have more at work. I get about 50-80k upload only and 250-271 down through my crappy dsl connection. I am upgrading to the 3mbit/3mbit this summer though. Anyways lemme make it clear I switched from G6 FTP to Raiden FTPD which is like GLFTPD only for win32 and planned to run it on port32000 guess what no go there. The ftpd was supposed to be a big upgrade from what I had so at the moment I just keep using G6. Sure I can change the port to 21 in the FTPD but I figure to actaully run the ftpd when i get the upgrade G6 takes less maintenance FTPD you have to watch or look at every now and then.

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD FIX THE BETA FIRMWARE MAKE IT LOVE HSOTING FTP SITE AND WEBSERVERS!!!!!!

ME LOVE YOU LONG TIME!!!!!

I'm fine with smaller files but forget >100M... Locks up every time, I can bypass the router and ftp just fine.

I just can't figure out why it will grab a big chunk then peter out... I can watch it stutter every 5 seconds or so then finally freeze. Here's a pic: »strayman.home.mindspring.com/net···ital.jpg

Normal ftp'ing to my website (no large files) works just fine.

P.S. I say on the link that the pics are from the same session but that's no longer true.

I'll throw in my .03 CDN. Routers are typically used by more advanced computer users. FTP's are normally run more more advanced computer users.

I've had a site that was easy to run and maintain for 2 years, but as soon as I added my router it became a pain.

Like some of the other posts port 21 is not an option. I don't want to be flooded by kids trying to get in (which I was for the few weeks I used that port right after getting @home service)

Adding the functionality to the firmware would move it up to the level of the actual hardware.

More FTP handling in the firmware would be great!

Even though I don't use FTP as of yet but definitely would like to, either way you go my vote. Goosh that was an old post.
