KibblesPremium join:1999-07-31 Mission Viejo, CA | My Northpoint Line Has been Taken!! I received an e-mail from Megapath the other day that Rhythms could not re-use the NP line because "it has been taken". I know it is a rather vague statement and CC was not able to find out what it really means...so does anyone know what it really means? 1. Could Pacific Bell somehow be using that line for another connection for somene else? 2. Maybe when NP shut down their DSLAM`s PB change the wiring back to how it was originally? 3.Maybe someone is BSing someone? 4. All of the above and more? -- Netopia router with a green light:( :»www.satsujin.org »www.akita-inu.com |

Kibbles,
I feel for you!
MP is still claiming that they can ping our router, even though the router is now in a closet and the line that once carried our DSL is no more..
We're trying to cancel our DSL service (which we really don't have) but no repsonse yet from MP since 2 weeks.
Good luck!

When a CLEC has the ILEC do a install or provision a line they are in actuality leasing the line. Once they receive authorization to release the line from the CLEC that had the line leased they are free to do as they wish with it again. SO.......... its possible that PB took the line and is using it for someone else. Wouldnt surprise me one bit. Although it is also VERY possible that because they are so good at it that they are BSing you and everyone else they are telling this to because from my experience in doing installs for the ISP's they have absolutely no understanding of outside plant issues or operations with the ILECs. So basically your guess is as good as anyone elses. I hope this information helps. -- Matthew Ex-Northpoint, Qwest, Covad OSP Network Technician |

KibblesPremium join:1999-07-31 Mission Viejo, CA | reply to Kibbles Here is a brain teaser...at 6:29:30 this morning my router was activated at 784kb/sec ( I noticed that the the Channel 1 light came on ) and the DLCI was attached to my old IP address. Nothing unusual except that my FOC is May 25 and the router is still on the old NP line..which according to Rhythms/Pacific Bell is being used...also no new tags at my MPOE. Megapath and Rhythms don`t know why it is on but Rhythms is doing something to their system...and I was scrolling through the logs and it appears that the router may not synchronize at 784kb/sec.
Any ideas what is going on...could my old NP line be still connected to an AT&T DSLAM and the line is being tested? -- »www.satsujin.org »www.akita-inu.com |

GarageJoeU2 Rocks join:2001-03-21 Scottsdale, AZ | LIkely kibbles, the answer is that you are connected to someone elses circuit. Because your line was provisioned for data, the ILECs like to keep it for that purpose thus when someone else in your neighborhood requested dsl and the ILEC was sent out to provision the line. However when provisioning the line they likely didnt get a request to remove the bridge tap to your house and thus your still connected. If it helps any your probably causing problems for the other guy because you are causing service problems with extra CPE on the circuit. I hope this information helps. -- Matthew Ex-Northpoint, Qwest, Covad OSP Network Technician |

KibblesPremium join:1999-07-31 Mission Viejo, CA | reply to Kibbles What is odd is that morning I could not ping the router, later that day I ran a tracert 130ms...today it is 29ms...but there is still no connection to the internet. P.S. One of the first hops is to Megapath`s POP in Los Angeles and about an hour after I called Megapath the router`s speeds has been change a couple of times....so it appears that Rhythms is working on their system and my line was hot cut ? -- »www.satsujin.org »www.akita-inu.com |
