Re: New feature? preview bypass?! I've no idea what you're talking about. I just tried a reply with some intentionally misspelled words and it only displayed them in RED like it's always done in Preview mode. You're seeing "suggestions" ?? Anyone else ?? -- -= Mindspring MaxDSL via Covad 1536/384 TeleSurfer Pro =- |

| reply to Hall What I was trying to show you was that when you included the text I listed in my previous message, the new system included a ton of extra "suggestions" in the preview pane...something that I have not seen before. For instance, the word uber brought up like 10 other words as suggestions, all written in red...it was just a complete eyesore.
edit: its not doing it now. I wish I had taken a screen cap of it. It was like the spellcheck was giving me suggestions, but listing every single one, in red, in the middle of my text. It made it very hard to read. I understand why you have no clue what I was talking about as I just tested it again and its back to normal. I apologize for the confusion. | reply to freeze Is spell cheker workking correctly? It wasn't with the earlier post. I think it says Firebird is misspeled. Plus, Hilo too. Gee, it hasn't flaged any of these misspeled words! What is up?
Edit to say that it told me this was NOT a short post, but then it posted as a short post? Why? Looks like this is all mesed yup! Why does the button now say preveiw/speel checck when there is no sppel cheeck? Whhat happened to the flag that is supposed to stop any postting that has too manny misspeled words?
Edited a second time to ask: WHERE IS MY SIGNATURE? Why is it missing? OK I see it on the preview screen...now will it be there on posting? [text was edited by author 2003-10-27 18:04:37]

| reply to freeze I just posted a message and it didn't like "DSLR\'s" (it never likes possessive words and should IGNORE them !). Next to that word, it had a text-field. There was also a button with a "?" that I did click. The page it took me to listed different suggestions along with a "Change" and "Close" button.
If you preview twice, it stops "suggesting" a correction.
Edit: This is what happens when things are implemented on the live system, it seems. See the "\" in DSLR\'s ?? I did NOT put that there. It was part of the text-field and remained there. See if it does it to the 2nd instance of that word. Yeap, it did. Is it too early to file a "bug" report ?? [text was edited by author 2003-10-27 18:12:00] |

| But Justin said four hours ago that those suggestions were a fluke. Maybe he meant he was fixing it to be like you say? I didn't get any sugestions pagge. Now, I have two misspelled words. Let's see what happens. I know the spell checker hates possessives...I always ignore those when they are in red.
But where did my signature go? It shows up in preview but then doesn't post. Why?
OK. I did one preview and there is no suggestions page and my two misspelled words are NOT in red. Also, I have Show Signature checked but signature is showing only in preview but not in posts.
Edited to say that THIS time I see my signature. Why didn't is show in the post above which was about the same length as this one before I added this edit so it can't be that it didn't show because the post was too short. I have a really long post several posts above these two and my signature is missing there also.
I just previewed again and THIS time I see two sets of signatures. In the first set, I see the little box and it has flagged the possessive (wouldn't you know) "one\'s" but it is NOT flagged in the second set of my signature! Plus, those misspelled words are ignored!!!
I edited this post THREE times already. This is the fourth edit. Why does it only show one edit?

Mele20Premium join:2001-06-05 Hilo, HI kudos:4 | Nil, then explain why it doesn't show in the long post above that begins with " The Thunderbird spell checker....."? Plus, it appeared on a shorter post that begins with a quote from another poster: "You may want to look into..."
Also, why does my signature show up in "preview" but then doesn't appear on the actual post? It seems to be acting very strangely and in an inconsistent manner. -- "Everything can be taken from a man or woman but one thing: the last of the human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's destiny." | No clue. Maybe you did not have a sig then. or maybe it was invalid (broke the sig rules).
Anyway, nothing has changed in this area (for ages!): sigs are added if they are valid and if the post is long enough (before editing). [text was edited by author 2003-10-27 19:39:47] |

Mele20Premium join:2001-06-05 Hilo, HI kudos:4 | Hmmm...very odd. I have had the SAME signature for ages and it has posted fine until yesterday and today! I also note that the spell checker flagged the word "one's" in the signature ONCE, but never again in the other posts I have made today at the site. That is inconsistent also. Even if no changes have been made in the area of signatures...something (gremlins?):D is messing with it. Maybe the site thought that long post above was TOO long and thus didn't add my signature? -- "Everything can be taken from a man or woman but one thing: the last of the human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's destiny." | Nope, the add sig check is only if the post is short.
spell checking does not consider sigs now, that is new, but nothing to do with how/when the sig was is added. Plus, I only worked on spell checking today.
concentrate on what is currently not working, if you could! thanks. |
|
Mele20Premium join:2001-06-05 Hilo, HI kudos:4 | Well, there isn't anything that isn't working now! Spell Checker now flags all those words in my post above. (See my post in dev/null just now). I also see that Spell Checker is now ignoring sigs.
This is SOOOOO GREAT! Thanks a million Justin! This is exactly what I was wanting and it makes using Mozilla and Firebird so much easier now. -- "Everything can be taken from a man or woman but one thing: the last of the human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's destiny."
