lol

Digital cable customers already have similar to this, plus it is digital quality (well, almost, anyway), and of course a simple hookup to a computer can "store" them just fine!

Hmm. now that you mention it...I have a TV tuner card and digital cable hooked right into my pc at home...might have to start updating my collection with all the digital music channels I get and have hardly used

Just a question: How are you getting digital cable without a converter? I thought you had to have a digital cable box to convert the digital signal.

Uh, I assumed they hooked the cable to the box and the box to the PC. Am I wrong?

Well I guess I didn't see where he had said that he hooked it up to a cable box, but let me read it again...

... Nope, still not there

I guess we could assume, but we know what that will do. I asked the question because I would like to know if there is a way to receive digital signal without leasing another box from Time Warner, so if somebody could answer that question...

Thanks.

Well, from reading other threads in the CATV forum, I was under the impression it was impossible to hook digital cable or satellite directly into one's computer without a box, hence the assumption that it went into the box first.

But, as you suggest, it will be best to wait for the original poster to clarify the matter, as I have been mistaken in the past, and am a true believer in the theory that past performance is an indication of future results.

I am pretty sure that you need a converter, but the poster said that he had it hooked 'right into' his computer. I thought that this meant straight from the wall to the tuner card, and his tuner card was acting as the converter.

That is correct. Cable goes to the box, then to the TV tuner card. That way I get all 200+ channels in digital format.

No experience with Digital Cable, but I assume it's coax going from the cable box to the PC. Simple solution, get a $2 coax Y splitter and hook both TV and PC on one box

...well, I guess you'd have to watch the same thing on the PC and TV at the same time, but it'd still work, right?

I have a DirecTV receiver dedicated to my computer, for both TV and music:

Dish -> Multiswitch -> Receiver -> audio + S-video cables to TV tuner card (not actually used as a tuner, just a NTSC interface), and another set of audio cables to a switch box so I can listen to Music Choice without loading the WinTV app on my PC

I've actually no experience using them, but I know you can buy digital cable pc tuner/converter cards. Hauppage makes one, check out their website »www.hauppauge.com , though the MSRP is apparently ~$200.
