RIAA can take a hike.

Instead, the students waited for the National Music Publishers Association's licensing arm to authorise a Seattle company called Loudeye to sell the students MP3s of the 3,500 CDs their fellow students had suggested. The students then paid Loudeye $8 per CD for the MP3s (they plan to expand the collection as students request more music).
----------------------
This means they actually PAID for the music, artists get their cut. RIAA doesn't...too bad.

And their distribution system is basically like a campus wide boombox that students can change if they like. So I own a vast collection of CD's I paid for, I load them in a 2000 CD changer and let my neighboors change CD's when they want to hear something else. Can the RIAA sue me? I dont think so.

I dont think the RIAA has a leg to stand on->hence, the no comment from them. I'd like to see them take on MIT. Imagine how much pro-bono work alumini's would be willing to do.

KUDOS to these 2 gents. The RIAA is going to be on the losing end of the stick very soon, they should just accept it and actually figure out a way to make their cut instead of cutting off their own faces.

Boohoo to the RIAA crybabies. Listen RIAA, they PAID for the music and YOU didn't get the cut, so STFU, you have enough $ as there is (from ripping most artists off)

What are you talking about? I thought the RIAA had no comment. Did I miss something?
