Why would the RIAA do anything with this?

From what I read in some of the above posts, some people here think the RIAA would try some legal action against the 2 MIT students. After reading the CNN article, I can't see any reason why the RIAA would even bother.

For those with tunnel vision, let me try and broaden your view. Look at the contrast between the MIT program and P2P file sharing.

The MIT program is in no shape or form trying to distribute music so that the listeners can copy the music. This is the same as radio stations that broadcast music. P2P software, on the other hand, is used with the intent to distribute music so anyone can own a copy.

The other point is that the quality of the music broadcast on the campus university is far less than CD quality - it's analog. It's more akin to above FM-radio quality music. P2P software allows for anywhere from scratchy sounding music all the way up to near-CD quality digital music, but you can all guess which quality people prefer to download.

With my reasoning, why are people implying that the RIAA is going to sue these two fine individuals who attend MIT?
