DaSneaky1D : What are your modem signal levels? You might want to try changing your DNS servers to see if that resolves the problem. Also, check your NIC's DHCP lease time. If it is set to renew your address in one hour, that may indicate maintenance going on in your area.
--
If first you don't succeed, try sucking another seed!

Whats Going On In Knoxville TN!!??

DaveTN7 : For that last few weeks I have been having a terrible time with my Charter connection in Knoxville, TN. It takes up to 10 minutes to download 5 email messages (without any attachments) and when I try to connect to the internet, it takes forever to connect. Many times I get DNS errors or the page just starts to load and never finishes.
Charter suggested that I had a bad NIC which I replaced to no avail. Even reformatted my HD and reloaded XP (I usually do that every 6 months anyway) and no improvements. It also does it for my other computers at home whether I connect through my router or connect them individually to my modem (SB4101). I have also tried resetting and rebooting my modem several times to no avail.
Interestingly, i tried speed test which reports better speeds than I'm supposed to be getting:
(Bronze Pkg)
Free test: Results
Speed
369.3 kilobits per second

Communications 369.3 kilobits per second
Storage 45.1 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 22.7 seconds
Subjective rating Not bad

Explain results
Info
Date & time Sunday, November 2, 6:01PM*
Test type IDT4 Free
Connection type Cable
Region Tennessee
Data size 605KB
IP address 24.158.xxx.xxx
Provider Charter Communications

* CST (-0600)
Test again
Cable connection in Tennessee

Comparison
Your speed
Cable in Tennessee average (1.99 Mbits per second)
T-1 maximum (1.54 Mbits per second)

Speed
369.3 kilobits per second

Communications 369.3 kilobits per second
Storage 45.1 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 22.7 seconds
Subjective rating Not bad

Explain results
Info
Date & time Sunday, November 2, 6:02PM*
Test type IDT4 Free
Connection type Cable
Region Tennessee
Data size 605KB
IP address 24.158.xxx.xxx
Provider Charter Communications

The one other thing that upsets me is charter sent me a letter stating that they were upping my bandwith to 1.5mbps until march 2004 as a way of saying thanks for being a loyal customer. Had that bandwith for about a week now it's gone.

Stan Gunn, any suggestions?
Anyone else?

Thanks.

David
