Worldcom = MCI right?

Hi,
Worldcom is the same company as MCI right? (I assume so as the worldcom.com website loads up mci.com)?

If so I'm kind of confused. The britsys worldcom 1500/784 plan is an 18 month commitment (with a $69 fee to cancel after 12months but before 18) while dslextreme says that their MCI plan (1500/784) does not have a cancellation fee after the 12 month commitment.

What's going on? I'm not to sure I want to get into a situation where I'll have to pay $69 if I want to switch DSL after 12 months.

Yes they go by MCI now, something about the Worldcom name being associated with $4,000,000,000 accounting error. And the 1500/784 DSL is actually what used to be known as Rythms (they were largely bought up by MCI/WC).

Each ISP has a different twist on the MCI plan. DigiZip, DSLExtreme, Britsys, Cyberonic all have different contracts, different ways of handling taxes, different terms.

Each provider of the MCI DSL has a slightly different deal.

We (BritSys) were the first to offer the 1500/768 ADSL about 18 months ago, then Cyber and Digi. DslX has been offering MCI for 2 to 3 months according to their website so they may have a different deal as far as termination fees go.

Usually we waive the $69 fee is an end user returns the DSL modem and kit so we can reuse it, but 99% of users are really happy with the physical service and dont cancel.

Hope that helps

Thanx for the update to std procedures.

I hate to tie up for 18 months, you just never know what is going to happen.

I noticed the new activation fee is $69 (woo hoo).

BTW 700/18=$38.89, less than the monthlyized rate listed on your site.

(If it includes the 6% tax, the equivilent is $36.67!)

Lastly the contract states that I have to accept 768/384 and it also says "There is no sync speed guarantee as loop length and line conditions vary, this is strictly an “up to” product.". The web site says sync can be as low as 384K/256K. @50% guarantee that is 192/128.

---

Two questions:
1) Does the prepaid $700 include the 6% tax or is the total really $742? From the contract it seems taxes are included in the Prepaid fee, but the tax would apply to the Setup Fee.

2) What is the lowest speed I am stuck with for 18 months? Is there a 30 day guarantee or something if I am stuck with something less than 384/192 (-13% overhead) thru put?

I think I am in the 10K+ feet range, but prequal on your site (not on DSLE, 768/384 on DigiZip).

All taxes are inclusive on the prepaid, no additional taxes/USF/hidden fees etc..

If you can only get 768/384 then you would have to keep it unless it is unstable. If the only option is 384/256 we dont have to accept it from MCI and can cancel at no cost to you.

We can usually tell straight away once a line is installed whether we can upgrade it to 1500/768 from the 768/384 that some orders are ordered at.
The MCI system may only say 1500/384 or 768/384 at time of order placement but we can always request an upgrade at not cost, we do it quite often if the line will handle it.
