Re: 7004VBR freezing every couple hours you can try to find the best mtu size yourself with using MS DOS-PROMPT enter:
ping -f -l 1492 www.yourispname.com-net-or-whatever?
ping -f (f like friend) -l (l like love) packetsize (lower from 1492 in steps from 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 or start with something for example 1400 and up it in steps like before until you find the last size which sends packets without getting fragmentated or there will be a range where you get no response because of time-delay) the name or ip of your internet-service-provider
the max size unfragmentated (for example 1464) + 28 will be the correct mtu size (example: 1464+28=1492 (of course yours can be 1410+28=1438 or what ever you find out) but the maximum for your router will be always 1492 (1500-8)
normaly your lan/client-pc-mtu should be 1500, sometimes it makes sense also to edit this but it inside the registry so for this there are a lot of tools around there in the net which can do editing for you. Change the routers mtu and look if this will resolve the problem before you look at you lan/client-pc-mtu.

 | Sorry to bump this old thread but I have the VBR and when I entered my MAC address in the MAC filtering section, my computer can't surf the internet. Am I doing something wrong here?
Thanks. |

To be sure, you can go to a command promt (if you are using Windows XP), start, run, cmd, then enter ipconfig /all. The physical address (MAC) of your computer will show up there. Make sure it is correct, and that you haven't mixed up any 0's with O's. -- Join BroadbandReports.com's SETI@Home Team Don't let your computer's idle time go to waste! |

2 edits | Yup, I double checked the MAC address and it's correct. In the VBR setup menu, It's under the heading "Firewall->Access Control" right? This is how the menu looks like: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------- Access Control Access Control allows users to block PCs on your network from gaining access to the Internet. The user can block PCs based on IP and MAC address.
Enable Filtering Function [x]yes [ ] no
Normal Filtering Table (up to 10 computers)
(nothing here, says "No Valid Filtering Rule!")
Mac Filtering table (up to 32 computers) (this is where I enter my MAC address right?) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------
Do you want me to PM you my "ipconfig /all" results? |

1 edit | Access Control blocks the listed PC's from the Internet, go instead to Firewall-> MAC Filter for the entries to allow only those listed PC's access to the Internet. Maybe you could not enter the MAC manually but use the entry bar at the bottom of the MAC screen. Select your computer there from the DHCP list and the entry number and click 'copy to' and then click "Apply" and log out.
Make sure you remove the info from the Access Control screen before you log out.
Edit - ok, you probably have the v2 of the vbr with different firmware than above where you get different screens. Don't have that one so.... |
