gwall2 : i just got off the phone with DW about the DW6000 upgrade. in the event anybody missed this little bit of info it is true that it cost's 424.00 + tax. You do get $100.00 credit for a 15 month commitment & $100.00 credit for returning the old modems. However these credits are applied to your billing statement so it still cost's you $424.00 out of pocket to upgrade. And no revisions to your statement are done until they receive the old modems. then you have to rely on direcway to keep the billing straight in awarding the $200.00 credit to your billing account. i decided to pass, not interested in paying out another $424.00 cash money for the same service i already have & an ethernet type connection. fortunately i have not had any woes with the DW software on my computer even with the DW Beta programs i have been using..

jslide : Hi All,

My perspective on a few questions/comments in the thread. I want the 6000 because my laptop is the host for the DW software. I want to be able to take it with me or turn it off without the rest of the network losing the connection. Also, when my son comes home from college, he can just use a wireless card to get instant access. (I have a DI-624 on order for wireless/wired access. Perhaps overkill.)

DirecWay is using the same credit card I use for my monthly payment. Don't know other experiences, but I have never had a billing problem. I don't know if they'll bill you.

My 4000 with the tweaks works fine, so I am not complaining and crossing my fingers that the 6000 works as well. Haven't seen anything to the contrary. Goes a little against my tendency not to be the guinea pig with new hardware/software. (I'm still on W2K. Like it.)

Love the forum! Jimmy

If you think direcway in the last two years has been challenging, then you should have been on aol plus. Just being able to get rid of the aol plus software and getting a computer back was worth it.

I've had hardly any problems since the 6000 install. The first was this morning when the system went down for 6000's. Something called the TCP acceleration status was down. Its back up and running now, the system blue light is on and everything is operational.

My speed tests are much better than aol plus, but dl slower than my 4000. The uploads are more consistant with the 6000 than the 4000. I have a 4000 at work. Download speeds are just a little over 1 meg. You don't see the large bursts that you see in the 4000. I think that is a product of the 6000 and some kind of a cap that they have set at the noc.

I like it, especially for browsing. And I'm not getting any stats on the 6000 over at direcway either. Maybe they don't have it setup on the 6000 yet.

If your running a bunch of computers under ics or several different operating systems the 6000 is the way to go.

tim
--
DirecWay 6000 pro | SatMex5 1230mhz | Linksys BEFSX41 | Linksys wap11 | 7 clients, 3-XP, 2-2k, 1-RedHat, 1-Mandrake |
