Mark Walton : I just got the following e-mail from Sympatico, with this piece of encouraging news:

Virus Alert. Act Now.

Dear Mark Walton

You may have recently heard about new viruses affecting Internet users. Viruses and Spam (often referred to as junk email) are issues that can affect your enjoyment of the Internet. The entire Internet community is working together to resolve these issues. At Bell Sympatico(TM), we are taking a proactive role in controlling the spread of viruses and spam through our network.

We have detected a virus that is affecting a limited number of members yet causing a significant volume of emails to be sent from their computers without their knowledge. In order to protect all our members and ensure that service quality is not affected, we are contacting these members and helping them remove the viruses from their computers. This action will reduce the volume of spam and improve the overall performance of email for all members.

Our systems indicate that your computer has not yet been affected; however, to ensure you remain unaffected, you need to protect your computer now.

Your role in protecting yourself includes being aware that viruses exist and ensuring that your computer's Operating System is secure. You also need to purchase and run an updated version of anti-virus software. We have developed a site where you'll find out how to upgrade your Operating System, detect and remove the virus should you become infected and download advanced Bell Security Services. For more information visit: »memberservices.sympatico.ca/cgi-···06742026

Sympatico is also taking ongoing measures to protect you from viruses passing through our network and to ensure that the quality of your service will not be impacted. Our Sympatico Anti-spam feature has been in place for some time and we've recently upgraded this feature on our email servers to help provide you with increased protection from viruses and spam.

Stay up to date on the latest virus information - make »www.sympatico.ca your home page or visit »www.service.sympatico.ca

Sincerely,
Sympatico Member Services Team

P.S.
