Exactly....but in this case you may be right when you said...."dont compare apples to apple juice!" I'm personally hoping when the second tuesday of Dec gets here MS will have addressed this issue. -- "Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit." |

b. why is the patch for 98se/ie6 sp1 still in the dl catalog (with the bad mshtml.dll) -- H O W T R U E : If you want something done, ask a busy person to do it |

 | Windows Update is working just fine for Win98SE .. keeps bugging me, on son's 98SE puter, with Critical Update notice {about the bad one that I uninstalled because of the scrollbar problem}. -- "But now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love." (1 Cor. 13:13) |

I don't think WU is down and it responds to my version of 98SE -- but it has a problem identifying if this specific patch is installed. Hopefully December will be a better month for WU and MS patches... |

Nam VetPremium join:2001-12-03 Allentown, PA | reply to Randy Bell ie 6 sp1? don't know why are you being notified, if you go to winupdate and scan is it offered up to dl it again?
I dont use notification but when I scan there are no critical updates offered.
I also uninstalled the patch -- H O W T R U E : If you want something done, ask a busy person to do it |

I still can't believe Microsoft thinks it is best to wait until the second Tuesday of every month and then release all the patches on that day. Wouldn't it be best to release the patches as soon as they are ready to be released, instead of following some arbitrarily defined schedule that serves who knows what purpose? -- The views expressed in this post do not necessarily reflect the views of the poster. |

 | reply to R2 I run WinXP Pro SP1 and have the Nov update... I am having the following problem with my scrollbar... when I click with my mouse it pages down 2 pages, whereas when I use the PageDown key on the keyboard it works properly. Is this the same issue everyone else is having or is there more? Just for the record I have MSHTML.DLL version 6.0.2800.1276 10/16/03 1:34 PM 2,734 MB in my \windows\system32 sub-directory.

But then again, that's what we've been hoping since it was released in early Nov. -- TheJoker |

| reply to R2 It's very late here!
After sorting through the .dll files, I found that sites that did not update their files; still continue to have scroll issues. In other words users who have updated, won't see the problem, but will if they go to a site that's behind the times on updates!
Hence @ this point I think most people no longer see this issue, if they updated correctly!~ -- The Rig:OS Win2k Pro. Re: What a bloody mess! Please follow these instructions to fix the double-scroll glitch. It worked for me (I'm using Windows 2000):
Go to Settings - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - and find Internet Explorer Q824145 and remove it. |

Re: Post Nov. Update Scrollbar Problem - Fix?? I don't think MS has released a fix to the double scrolling problem yet, so the only thing is to either live with it, or uninstall it like many of us did. I wouldn't uninstall a security fix though unless you were running a firewall, and preferably also behind a router, and then its weighing the risk vs. the problem that the bad fix caused. Some would say its not worth the risk, and others absolutely go nuts with the double scrolling (like me). -- TheJoker |

1 edit | reply to R2 Does anyone know where I can get the two dll files urlmon.dll and mshtml.dll the ones before the release of the November patch, because I don't have them and when I install my patches I always remove the $uninstall$ folders.
btw I'm on win2k.
nm, just used this command C:\WINNT\ieuninst.exe C:\WINNT\INF\Q824145.inf
all fixed |

Good News, it's **fixed** now, in the Cumulative Update for IE 6. -- "But now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love." (1 Cor. 13:13) |

YEAH!!! Time to update. Its sure good to finally be able to install the cumulative update, the last update wasn't worth the problem it created. -- TheJoker |

1 edit | Finally Gates fixes with out-of-cycle WIN Update! Here it is - February 6, 2004, 2:30 in the morning - I can't sleep, so I'm at the computer - I turn off the ZoneAlarm lock - and WHAM! - I get a Windows update (WIN 98SE). The critical update is for IE6 - so I'm hopeful.
It downloads. Tension mounts as my computer fails to reboot 4, or is it 5, times.
Please please please reboot! I try safe mode a couple of times. Finally, the second safe mode reboot works. So I do a regular reboot. I open IE, and EUREKA! The scrolling is back to normal! The pressure must've really been on for them to issue this out-of-cycle Update!
Hmmm - regular scrolling feels really weird now! |
