In life what i have found to be amazingly recurrent it was what my mom told me when i was young READ EVERYTHING and if you don't like what you're reading then don't agree to it. For those of you who consider yourselves to be "tech/web savvy" if you can't manage to surf through a proxy connection what kind of net junkie are you exactly? not much of one that's for sure. The funniest part of all of you guys' ignorance is that the membership fees are for a connection to their network not the internet itself there is a proxied connection as a benefit but that's not primarily what you are paying for. Some of the content found on AOL can be found online for free but not all of it most of the content comes from premium pay-type services that I'm sure a person could probably game the "free trial" for those serv if even offered outside of AOL which somethings aren't. But hey what do I know...
Speaking for myself, when I started with AOL, I DID read everything.
Over time, I grew weary of AOL's limitations. Being on their network was one thing, but I wanted more from my internet connection. Yes, I know they are a content provider and the irony is not lost on me about how they graciously offer me a connection to the internet.
Their increasing use of popups and more and more lost connections coupled with the price versus "other" connectivity options made me reevaluate my needs.
Many of the posters have given what I consider to be valid reasons for saying AOL is not a good ISP/Content Provider: billing, qualty of service, incessant, intrusive popups, and finally, customer service issues. -- I once accidentally spilled spot remover on my dog and he disappeared.
