Sneaky AOL Tactics

My mother called me Saturday complaining about AOL. They signed her up for Broadband without her permission. Our best guess is she accidently clicked something in those evil pop ups that AOL uses before one can actually get online. Now, they are debiting her checking account directly for Broadband. If AOL doesn't fix it, she says she is going to the bank the close her account so AOL can never touch her again.

I have been trying to get her to give up AOL for two years and this may be what pushes her over the edge. Since she lives in Buffalo, NY, our plan is to have her switch to Verizon DSL over Christmas when I can be there to supervise the installion. Any alternative suggestions are appreciated, but trust me, AOL Broadband was never considered an option.

Those "Evil Popups" are one of the reasons I left AOL.

ICK!

Can't go wrong with Verizon DSL, ANYTHING is better than AOHell.

My dad had an account with AOL a few years ago, which I was using since we only had one computer. At the time they (AOL) were charging $21.95 for service. I found a local Dial-up ISP which charged $10/month and told my dad, he immediately went and switched..the quality of service of this Dial-up ISP was sooooooooooooooooo much better than AOHell.

As for me, I bought a new computer and went with Earthlink Cable through time warner...have had no major issues with it.

Not to be rude or anything, but it was pretty stupid to put up with those AOL ad popups in the first place considering they can be totally turned off in the marketing prefs.

I could never understand why AOL users complain about those for years on end, and the solution is right there in front of them.

Oh... yeah. Guess I forgot about that. I was a noob then, but not now. I still didn't like getting bumped off all the time; thanks for the refresher.
