Re: [wireless] WRT54G and WPA problems! Depending on the version of the WPC54G you buy, check the folders on the install CD that came with it. If there's a folder called "ODYSSEYCLIENT", run the only file (LINKSYSCLIENTENGLISH.EXE) in that folder to install the Linksys Odyssey Client, which is basically the normal Odyssey client for Linksys cards. If you have the Linksys supplicant installed, exit it and go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and see if the Odyssey Client is already installed, if it is remove it, then reboot (required) and run the install directly from the CD as above. Then look on the Start menu (it should also load on boot) in the Linksys folder for the Odyssey client link and run it...very easy to configure and worked first time when I got all kinds of errors with the driver only (XP-native) and Linksys supplicant WPA on a particular laptop (I have it woroking fine on other laptops...strange).
I don't know which install CDs have this exactly but it's worth a try to get Odyssey for free rather than $50 (it doesn't do wired 802.1x and I haven't tested it with other brand PC cards but I'm guessing it's tied to Linksys only). |

 | reply to MyTechLife Yes - I tried the registry fix on a laptop and desktop that both use WPA w/ Win XP home edition. So far so good. |

I was only having the problem with WPC11 v3 cards and was about to blame it on the unsigned driver when I found the registry hack here. It works like a charm, no more disconnects. Thanks!
I put the new registry entry in a .reg file and am attaching it here if the forum software will let me. It helped me fix a bunch of machines with only a click of the mouse. |

Thank you!! I'd tried at least half a dozen fixes posted on this forum to no avail and in desperation had downloaded the Odessey demo. Before I installed it, you alerted me to the fact that Odyssey was on the WPC54G CD all along. Based on the setup instructions I just assumed that the Odyssey client was disabled for XP -- duh! Now, at long last, my connection, WPA-AES, is rock solid.
I'm read similar complaints about lost connections on the D-Link and Netgear forums and I get the impression that the XP WCF is a common denominator for many of the problems. |

Here are the steps I took: 1. I updated Windows XP with all the latest patches and the wireless patch. 2. Then I set my connection up as WPA PSK and AES. 3. Under Authentication Tab/Smart Card or other Certificate Properties I have "use a certificate on this computer" checked but I left "Use Simple Certificate Selection" unchecked. 4. I went to funk.com and downloaded and installed the Odyssey Client. 5.After I installed the Odyssey client I configured it. 6.After configuring the Odyssey client I was still getting Internet connection loss so I went into msconfig from the run menu and disabled the Odyssey client from booting up when I booted the computer. 7. I then closed out the Odyssey client and reconfigured Windows XP to have Windows once again handle the wireless connection. 8. Lastly I rebooted Windows and once it came back up the problem was fixed. I haven't lost a connection since unless it has been my cable modem actually loosing the connection.
As a side note, I have tried the reg fix and it didn't work for me. Also you will not have to worry about the 30-day trial on the Odyssey client, iirc. This workaround fix bypasses the 30-day trial as it doesn't use the client any longer. For the Hardware I'm using I'm using a Linksys WRT54G router, WMP54G pci card for my desktop and WPC54G Notebook card for my Dell Latptop.
I hope this information helps somebody from pulling their hair out! |
