Re: This is just a test for the reaction

If it's the purchase of TW that's costing them money, then raise the rate for cable modems to match AT&T's increase to $45.95. That would totally be accepted. $21.95 is already a rippoff. Only a total sucker will pay $23.90.

some info on why the price increase

The price increase is intended to help AOL fund improvements to its service. Upgrades include the next software enhancements provided in AOL 7.0, which is due to be released by the end of the year. AOL 7.0 will increase the integration of local and broadband content and enhance other areas, such as personal finance, entertainment, and news and sports. In the last three years, AOL has invested $3.5bn in its Internet service.

AOL will also work to expand itsAnywhere services, which make popular features such as e-mail and instant messaging available via the telephone, television, and handheld devices.

Most of these are for broadband upgrades which would give reason to increase in cable modem rates. Upgrading from 6.0 to 7.0 with little noticble difference shouldn't require a price hike. If they get away with this and still increase the number subscribers at their rapid rate, then it proves more than anything else that the masses aren't screaming for broadband yet.

Where did this information from "7.0" come from?
I'm an AOL Beta Tester and we are still working on 6.0 bugs, there hasn't even been a beta community announcement of 7.0 coming at ANY time!

I agree that AOL does have alot of problems, especially the "AOL Adapter" that installs itself into your network settings. I don't really test out betas all that often, i'm really just in it to get the benefits of trying out new things that AOL comes out with before the public ever hears about it. For instance, AOL by Phone started beta in September, 2000 and beta members got free use of it until February, 2001. Another example would be, 6 months of free use (and free install) of AOL Plus powered by DirecPC.
Maybe one day AOL will actually have quality content, and TRUE broadband access available. Until that day comes, I figure that $9.95 a month is worth it to keep from having to teach alot of relatives how to use the real internet.

AH THE DREADED aOL ADAPTER

i loved the way that aOL 6.0 screwed up people on braodband's connection. you know the aOL step 5 fix and the patch that they have now.. it was great hearing all the subscribers to the company i support cuss about aOL especially when i had to send them back to aOL to get the step 5 fix and ask for a supervisor because the regular aOL support clones were saying there was no problem.. i am sure this whole thing was an "accident" , but wait every version of the aOL trojan horse software knocks you off all your other providers. this is but 1 reason why aOL sux and is a sorry company. all other isp's should figure out a cd that you can insert to kill your aOL settings then mail 1 every 2 weeks to all stupid aOL users with the words FREE on it cause an aOL user will put anything that says free in their computer. then aOL will have to put up with months of calls for others sorry software killing aOL's settings.

I know many, MANY people who have AOL (dial ups, bring your own access) and have NO problems what-so-ever. So what's the problem? Can't follow directions?

Why is it the 'real morons' have to show what morons they really are by attacking those that disagree with their opinions? Get a life you POC.

Why..did you see yourself in there? A difference of opinions is one thing..a demonstrated inability to follow the simplest of directions is another.

I too am an AOL Beta Tester. We deal with some of the buggiest parts of the system. So, one would figure that AOL Beta Testers' PCs are all screwed up? That doesn't seem to be the case with all the AOL users I know.

BTW..take the coffee cup out of your CD tray and maybe you'll figure it out.

I guess that puts people, maybe like you, who can't get a simple program like AOL to work even below the level of stupid. I didn't think that was possible.
