Re: If It Wasn't So Pathetic...

...It would be funny!! AOL means 56K dial-up access (oh, yeah, DSL if you want to pay extra). "Unlimited" means you can stay on, but not too long, or you'll get a nasty-gram from AOL. All I can say is that I've "rescued" at least a half dozen people from AOL, who now have a good connection at a lower price, and can actually browse the Web without kissing AOL's nether regions. In an industry where prices should be coming down, AOL is (as Dirty Harry would have said) "a legend in their own mind."

Not true..I have Road Runner and I access AOL for 9.95 a month. I have never been told I was on too long or pay a higher price.

Are you on AOL 24/7? IOW, are they your provider? When a friend of mine logged into AOL and sat there for the week-end, downloading and chatting mostly, but not logging off, she was told she would be charged extra, and that she could not stay logged on that long. You see, she dialed in through AOL, they were her ISP. AOL doesn't have broadband right now, and they don't like people accessing their system for long periods of time. Try this - connect to AOL and leave it there, for 2 or 3 days. If you are not forced off within that time, you will most likely receive a warning that you are abusing the connection. Broadband connections are typically "always on." I never log off my EarthLink account, and my computers never shut down. I am truly on 24/7. That's "unlimited time."

Also, you are paying for your RR broadband connection AND your AOL connection. You are not using AOL as your ISP. If you were strictly an AOL customer, you'd be paying ~ $21.95 per month, for 56K. And you still wouldn't be getting "unlimited access" for that price.

I have 2 teenagers who are on it almost constantly. I will admit I haven't been on 24/7, but for many consectutive hours. Using the bring your own access program (9.95 a month) may be different then.
