ieee1394 : Man, I'm not convinced this would necessarily be a good thing. Adelphia could either keep fixing it or Comcast could acquire it and then drop the ball for a while before they get around to integrating it. Just translates to even more pain and suffering. But then again, more cash is always good.

However, the rumor that Comcast has had the interest in buying up the few systems in the DC metro area that they don't already own has been going around for some time now. And the guy who runs this site has a reputation for having fairly reliable contacts in the industry. It would be a lot more interesting to hear that they were going after the enormous Cox system in Fairfax County, which is easily ten times the size of Adelphia in Loudoun.

Personally, I'd prefer that the Loudoun system remains in the hands of Adelphia. I really can't complain about Adelphia too much, and I have friends with Comcast in the area who pay about $20 more for a similar level of programming and service.

machpost : I submitted this for news, but apparently it wasn't newsworthy enough. But anyway, DCRTV, a local Radio/TV/Media news site, posted the following today:

quote:

Comcast To Expand? - 12/11 - Don't be surprised if the Adelphia cable TV systems just west of the DC/Baltimore area get gobbled up by Comcast in 2004. DCRTV hears rumblings that Comcast, which owns most of the cable systems in the DC/Baltimore area, is salivating to get its hands on the regional systems of Adelphia, which recently filed for bankruptcy protection. Adelphia owns the cable systems serving the counties of Frederick (both MD and VA), Loudoun, and Fauquier.....

--
Adelphia Power Link.
