w0W!

"Early in 2002 it announced it had raised $180 million in financing. "

180 million and its in a hurt locker.. Programming and maintenance costs for just under 400,000 customers..

Rate increases in competitive markets? Just might happen here.

Altrio had no where near 400,000 thousand customers. It was hoping to PASS 400,000 HOMES when its final buildout was finished in a few years, which it wasn't even close to.

The rate increases have already happened in the Adelphia areas competing with Altrio...

Altrio's networks are shutting down in 30-60 days if it can't find a buyer.

I hope their plant doesn't get cut down, its awesome. Its made for 911 capable telephone service with 99.99% uptime, among other things.

Another perspective from the Pasadena Star News can be found here: »pasadenastarnews.com/Stories/0,1···h=filter

They put Altrio's subscriber count at almost 10,000 and the current employee count at 35.

Another article from MultiChannel news on the Altrio situation:
Altrio Says It's For Sale

Interesting quotes from that article:

"An overbuilder is a difficult business model. They have no economies of scale, no deep pocket that lets them build community to community," said Stifel, Nicolaus & Co. cable analyst Ted Henderson.

...

Building a competitive telecom provider is not easy and Singer (Monrovia public information officer) said his city was told that "basically, they're running out of money."

...

Perhaps the most disappointed locality is the city of Los Angeles, which has worked to get competition from multiple potential overbuilders, including RCN Corp. and Western Integrated Networks LLC, in addition to Altrio.

Of those, RCN revised and truncated its business plan, pending improvements in the capital markets, before it got its L.A. operation off the ground.

WIN went bankrupt during its first build in Sacramento, Calif., and never acted on its Los Angeles franchise.

and now Altrio looks like its going to fail too.
