Re: Meeow's Suggestion: Popki (Anti Pop Ups)

I'm so glad you got it to work!:)
I hate those words up there too JKK. But if it's a choice between that and popup adds, I'll live with MIE.;)

WHAT A GREAT LITTLE PROGRAM!!! If anyone doesn't have this one, it's a must get. And, yes, even with those horrid words I have to look at all the time.

Give me a month and I'll probably uninstall the other pop up apps I have. This one looks great. Just try voting thumbs up for a thread with it running great feature that allows one more Something I will live with and really enjoy. Appears to close them a lot faster than the other programs also. Thanks for a sweet sweet program

I already did. AnalogX's was good, but this one stops that one dead in it's tracks.

PopKi Sometimes Crashes IE

The PopKi program is great. It closes more windows than any of the other pop-up killers I've tried. However, I've noticed that on some occasions, when IE attempts to open a new window, and PopKi tries to kill it, IE will crash. Sometimes you can recover by hitting CTRL-ALT-DELETE but other times you have to reboot. I'm using version 1.4, and hoping that maybe it's some small timing problem that can be fixed in a future update. My version of IE is 5.5 SP1, with Windows 98 SE.

Is there a specific error message you get -- or can you reproduce this with DrWatson running? Perhaps we can isolate the problem and report them back to the developer...

Re: Meeow's Suggestion: Popki (Anti Pop Ups)

Try Naviscope it actually works. and can set to stop pop-ups only when opening a web page. Or you can block them permanently. Its up to you. I found Popki to be too annoying and i also had IE lock ups too.
You can get Naviscope from: »www.naviscope.com/
and best of all its free for personal use

Re: PopKi Sometimes Crashes IE

I don't use DrWatson, so no. And I've written the author of PopKi about this, and sent him screen shots of the error. I've also had reports of other people I know getting the same things. However, version 1.4 is much better about it than the earlier versions. I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this problem.

From the author

I am aware that Popki will sometimes cause MSIE to crash. I think it has something to do with sites that load Java. I am looking into this and will update as soon as I figure it out. Let me know if you find a site that crashes every time. The problem is rare and hard to duplicate. Nobody has reported any problems when using Netscape. There were some timing and error handling changes made in v1.4.

Judgedredd, please tell me what is annoying about Popki so I can consider changes, but if you like entering a list of sites to block you need different software. This is not something I plan to do.

Support free software! I have some new casino banners on my site at »ranfo.com/ and would appreciate a clickthrough from anyone who likes my programs.

Re: Meeow's Suggestion: Popki (Anti Pop Ups)

Just FYI, I tried out this one previously:

Called "PopUp Ad Killer". It's shareware. It's just for IE. Does work though, intercepts javascript/etc calls that open new windows and prevents them from opening.

I had problems with it causing GPF's, after a while, when it was running. Thus, I didn't use it much. Maybe newer versions work better.

Re: From the author

ranfo, I've never had a crash with Popki on any site, and I visit a lot of Java intensive sites.
I'm on my way to click through you banners.:)

I notice a small annoyance using Popki when minimised to the tray: when I right click the icon, the menu doesn't show at the right place . OK, maybe I am weird, but I like my task bar at THE TOP of my screen. But the Popki menu shows at THE BOTTOM ! Actually it always appears at the same place, no matter where you put the task bar...

Besides that I like it, but I did experienced a few IE crashes...

Has worked well an very easy to set up. Works with IE & Netscape.
Worth checking out.
